Amazing!

If I could give these more than 5 stars I would. My daughter is in Kindergarten and learning sight words but had told me she “hates reading” and was being extremely obstinate any time I tried to get her to read with me. We had tried Bob Books, as those had been very successful with children I babysat years ago. She hated them. And no wonder, who wants to struggle to read books with no color that have no plot and no interesting characters? My daughter is not a huge Disney Princess fan, but I figured after seeing how she responded positively to a Step Into Reading Level 1 Rapunzel book that these might be a good choice. SO HAPPY!The sentences do have plenty of sight words and most are repetition-based with the similarly structured sentences on every page with only a few words or phrases changed. If you’re not an educator you might not see this as a plus. But it absolutely is because it enables the child to practice reading and recognizing the same patterns of words over and over again. Won’t they just memorize the sentence from the previous page? No. They can’t because the sentences are different and you can’t read the next page unless you know where the similarities start and end and you can’t know that without actually reading the sentence. For an advanced reader this is obvious, but for an early reader, not so much. The set also comes with 2 pages of Disney Princess stickers and a certificate. The way we used them is that after my daughter had read a book, she was able to choose one of the stickers (usually she chose the one that matched the princess in the book) and place it on the inside cover. After she had completed all of them once, we filled out the certificate, laminated it, and now she proudly has it displayed in her bedroom! She loves the books so much that she has continued to read them and stick more stickers in the inside covers. It makes her feel proud and shows how many times she’s read each book. Eventually we’ll run out of stickers and that’s fine. Now she says “I love reading! Reading is my favorite thing to do!” Ahh, how quickly things change. Certainly not going to remind her than not long ago she’s was insisting that she hated reading. I am so happy with this set and so proud of my child. I wish they had more sets.Overall, I highly recommend this purchase if your child is reading-ready (5-ish) and likes princesses. This set truly helped my child develop a love of reading. What more could a parent want? Buy this set.

Perfect for TEACHING reading

As an educator, I knew what I needed in terms of good "teaching to read" books. My daughter just recently turned four and these books are great for her. They use repetition within each book, so your child can become familiar with what each word is aka they can READ. The books are also simple, so using picture clues to determine the verbs and nouns is helpful in figuring out the words are that aren't commonly used. To parents: get some highlighter tape and use it to highlight those repetitive words (ex: 'She can' and 'with her') so that they can SHOW you they know the words. Use them as studying words for the week. You can also, another day, use highlighter tape to highlight nouns or verbs.Lastly, yes, it's annoying to see that in a children's book, they have kissing and marriage (Belle and Cinderella books), but as a parent, it's up to us to make an effort to have that discussion ("Yucky, Cinderella. She's a grown up but that's still not appropriate to kiss in front of others" is the conversation we had). She knows it's not appropriate to kiss or hug anyone other than family bc as a parent, it's my job to teach that. So, do I feel uncomfortable with my kid reading a book with Cinderella kissing the prince? No. I highly recommend this book collection to anyone who is looking to teach their child to read.

A fantastic series for very new readers

This set is perfect for kids who are just learning to read. Each book uses only a handful of words that repeats in structure to help kids gain confidence reading. Only a word or two changes on each page within the pattern, so kids are learning in small and manageable chunks. The words and concepts have some overlap among the books, too, so while the stories change, kids will recognize words from one to the next. These aren't intended to be read aloud, really; grownups aren't going to be as enthusiastic about the stories since they are so simple and repetitive. However, this is the perfect collection for kids who are learning sight reading and are ready for more of a challenge with their favorite characters.

Pretty Good

I purchased this set for my twin daughters who just finished kindergarten this year. One of them is much more confident with reading than the other. So far, they have enjoyed these books a lot because they love Disney princesses. The text is fairly simple, but I do think some words are too hard for young readers. I was hoping these would have more decodables/words they can easily sound out. For example, I think the word "musicians" is a little hard for kids first learning to read and can't really be sounded out. Otherwise, the text is simple, and is pretty repetitive, and they overall feel pretty confident reading these. If your kid likes Disney princesses and you're looking for an inexpensive set of easy ready books, I say get these knowing that you'll likely have to help with with some words!

Great books but semi inappropriate

I love using these books as gifts in my kindergarten classroom. The words are pretty on target with what sight words we learn in class and the sentences repeat on most pages. My only caution to buyers is that the Cinderella and Beauty & the Beast books are about a wedding. The Cinderella book has them kissing on the cover and in the book which is not the best content for little readers.Great books, just maybe remove Cinderella if going for a highly G-rated reading experience.
