Great outdoor speakers.
These are really outstanding outdoor speakers. I have had a pair in my outdoor bar, partially sheltered for two years now. I live in West Virginia and we get tremendous weather swings from 100° days in the summer to subzero temperatures in the winter. The speakers keep going great. Great sound quality and built like a tank. The only complaint I have is that the grills tend to fall off after a while. I simply glued mine back on with some clear silicone problem solved.

OMG Outdoor Speakers
Simply put, these speakers are amazing. I wanted new outdoor speakers for my 30x18 patio and BBQ station area (last summer scrapped my gas grill for a kettle charcoal grill and love grilling outdoors more than ever). I was replacing a pair of workhorse Infinity Outrigger Jr. speakers that served me well for 18 years, and still sound as good as the day I first installed them. But I wanted something with more detail at low volumes, and more bass punch, which could also handle larger wattage when the situation demands it. The search was on.An old JVC 5.1 receiver (120 watts RMS) in the basement powers a set of JBL speakers in the basement, and my outdoor speakers on the patio (A/B outputs on receiver). I love keeping old equipment in use if it performs well. We can rock out to my old LP records in the basement or the patio. I also have an old laptop (Windows Vista circa '2005) I use as my digital music workstation. It has all my mp3 files and streams Internet radio with ease. It's the perfect use for a laptop that can't do most other laptop activities in today's world. If you have an old laptop collecting dust, make it a media player for an old stereo/home theater system and you'll be shocked how nice it works.I compared Yamaha, Polk, Pyle, Klipsch, Insignia, Boston Acoustic, and Bose. The clear winner, when price is factored in, was the Yamaha NS-AW350.The Bose 151 Environmental sound was good, and it may be the favorite of people who like their signature sound. Certainly a classic outdoor speaker.Klipsch was very good, but also very pricey, at several times the price of the Yamahas, with comparable sound quality. The Boston Acoustics speakers sounded nice, while lacking some bass, but the compact cube would be useful for hiding them away in corners. The Yamaha, though, is as good or better, at half the price of the Boston Acoustics, with superior sound quality.I would stay away from Pyle, unless price is your ultimate consideration. They definitely sounded OK for the money. Not sure how the build quality is, though. The Insignias were nothing special, either, and well behind the Yamahas for about equal cost. The smaller Yamaha NS-AW150 was quite decent for a little brother version, but for an extra twenty bucks, you get so much more depth of sound with the NS-AW350. I would not hesitate to buy the NS-AW150 if a smaller speaker is required for an outdoor space. The NS-AW350 is on the larger side (which also greatly helps the bass response). There's no hiding these speakers. Fortunately, I have no desire to hide these wonderful speakers. They sound excellent at low volume, when chilling to NPR or relaxing music, but they really shine when pushed. The treble is crisp, but not grating. The midrange is well balanced. The bass response defies logic. The volume these can put out will quickly bring the authorities, or at least an angry neighbor. These speakers can easily drown out a gathering of 50+ people. For versatility and cost, these speakers cannot be beat. Yamaha should double the price, and they would still be the best speakers going at their price point. The only negative is the mounting brackets. They do not allow much movement, and only support one plane of movement. My old Infinity's allow me to install the mounts for tall or wide aspects, and tilt a good amount, so you can direct the sound where you need it. The Yamaha brackets provide only a small amount of tilt movement. I may fabricate an angled device to provide more slant for the speakers when mounted. Hardly a negative that would put me off these speakers.

Very nice - great sound quality.
I installed this under the eave of our garage so we could enjoy music while sitting around a fire pit in the driveway. The speakers are 11' off the ground and about 35' apart. The sound is outstanding, however it is somewhat directional. If you are right in the middle, it is truly amazing, but as you move closer to one speaker or the other, you really notice the loss of the other channel. This is probably to be expected but the affect seems more noticeable than I would have thought or I have experienced with a different set of speakers I have installed on the inside of the garage. The instructions actually include diagrams and something about maximum separation for two speakers (which I exceeded). I'm very happy with these as we will almost always be positioned in the middle when using them, but I thought it might be helpful to share for other use cases. I have not experienced any issues with the grills coming off like others have mentioned. When the speakers arrived, I actually tried to pry one off to see if I was going to want to glue them before installing. I was unable to get it to come loose so perhaps the manufacturer has addressed this complaint. These speakers are a great value - I'd buy them again.

It Deserves 4.5 Stars
I've been an audiophile for over 35 years. I know a lot about amplifiers, speakers and acoustics. I've got 3 stereos at home, all 3 have subwoofers. So, when I bought these speakers and after reading the reviews, I knew what I was getting. Even though the specs say 55hz to 40,000hz, within 3 decibels, these speakers are not getting down to 55 hz. Two of my subwoofers on my other systems get down to 25hz and one gets down to about 50hz. These speakers don't even come close to 50hz. I spent the better part of 5 hours, sitting on the deck and going through my music list and these speakers probably get down comfortably to about 80hz, which is mid-bass.Having said that, the speakers sound great for highs and mid-range. I've got them sitting on my deck, powered by an Audiosource power amplifier rated at 50W RMS continuous, per channel into 8 ohms. I had the opportunity to crank them up and they produce plenty of volume in our back yard and loud enough to irritate the neighbors. If you plan on having a lot of back yard parties and you need that boom-boom sound then plan on getting an outdoor subwoofer to go with these or plan on spending more money on larger and better speakers. However, for just a little over 80 bucks, you're not going to find any speakers that sound this good and can live outdoors.Physically, these are large speakers. The dimensions on the specs don't tell the whole story - these are big speakers. My sister bought a pair of Bose outdoor speakers that were not nearly as big for 3 times the cost and that was almost 10 years ago. I had been eyeing a pair of Polk outdoor speakers, a brand I currently own for indoor speakers and brand whose speakers I've owned in the past. However, at 125, I just couldn't justify the cost when the performance was only slightly better although Polk claims that their speakers are made to military standards and can stay outdoors in all kinds of inclement weather. Yamaha doesn't recommend that they stay outdoors in bad weather, but they're going to live outdoors under the plant stands, which provide a modicum of protection. We'll see how durable these Yamaha speakers are over the next few years. If you're not too concerned about missing out on lower bass, then these speakers should fit your needs. If you want that thumping base, be prepared to pay more. Good listening.
