Good value

Great budget knife alternative. I use this for elk all the way down to turkey. Sharpens easily and the bright orange handle makes it so I don’t lose it!

Light weight,Light use knife

Came super sharp out the box. It’s thin so forget about batoning wood or serious fuels work. The skeleton handle keeps the weight down but also contributes to its fragility. You get the feeling you can bend it with your hands. Overall a knife knife. Blade looks easy to sharpen and somewhat stain resistant. I chose the orange handle for visibility although the plastic used in the handle isn’t the best. Think they should’ve gone with a rubber type coating but not a deal breaker. Overall good for the price for its limited use

Lightweight knife with Safety and Functionality in mind with its design.

The media could not be loaded. Intro:The Gerber Exo Mod hunting knife is pretty impressive. I am excited to give a review on this knife because it was so much more than expected. I should have known that it was going to be high quality and made with exceptional craftsmanship since it’s a Gerber, and Gerber has been making knives now for around 80 years. In my opinion, you don’t continue making knives for that long unless you’re doing something right! How it FeelsLet’s talk a little bit about how this knife feels when it’s held. The handle is oversized and made for LARGE man hands. I have medium size hands and I can grip all four of my fingers around the bottom of the handle with my thumb on the top of the handle, and there is still room for at least one more finger width on the bottom of the handle. The bottom of handle itself has a slight bow allowing the for a natural grip that works well with the contour of a hand. For additional grip, there are indentations for the index finger on the metal portion of the handle.Lastly, I want to make sure to stress that this knife is extremely thin. It may feel odd if you are used to a thick handled knife. It feels a little bit like holding a butter knife, which I kind of like because it makes it easier to maneuver. I measured and weighed this knife on the video I posted in this review and the handle measure at less than ¼ inch thick and the knife was a little over 9 inches long from handle to sheath. The knife weighed only 4.1 ounces with the sheath attached!Overall, gripping and handling this knife is a breeze. How it cutsThe best way for me to describe how this knife cuts is to say that it cuts like a razor blade. I took this knife out of the packaging and was able to shave a patch of hair on my arm, that’s how sharp it is! The cutting portion of the blade is about as thin as a razor blade as wellColor and LookThis knife isn’t going to win any beauty contest on color and overall look, but I don’t think that is what the designer was going for. This knife was meant to be a highly visible, tough tool for field use. The handle has a fluorescent safety orange color to keep it visible. This is especially important in case the knife is accidentally dropped or used at night because it makes it easier to find. The blade finish is not mirrored, instead it has a matte finish. The sheathThe sheath is made of lightweight plastic that is very tough. I do not know exactly what type of plastic it is made of but it reminds me of heavy duty polymer that I have seen used on gun holsters. I tried to twist or crack the sheath with my fingers and it was so tough that I couldn’t do it with my strength. This should provide excellent drop protection as well as excellent personal protection from the sharp knife blade that is inside the sheath. One thing I’d like to note on the sheath is that it has snaps on the front and snaps on the back in case you decide to buy the other Exo Mod knives and want to carry them together. This knife can also be carried on its own simply by using the belt holes on the sheath. The last thing I’d like to say about the sheath is that it has safety in mind. By that I mean, it is the tightest fitting knife sheath I have ever seen. The chances of this knife accidentally falling out of the sheath (if it is properly snapped in) are very low. In order to remove the knife, a firm grip must be made on the handle, and your thumb must also be used to apply pressure downwards on the sheath. This makes it the perfect knife for any outdoorsman who may be crawling, climbing, or running.WarrantyI haven’t had to use their warranty on this knife, but Gerber warrants any of their knives to be free of defects for the LIFE of the owner.Final ThoughtsI really ended up loving this knife. It’s an excellent lightweight hunting knife for any outdoorsman that wants to cut down on the weight of his gear. Its build primarily has safety and functionality in mind. This is a 5 star product and I definitely recommend it.I have also included pictures and a video that include additional info that you may find helpful and may access on this Amazon review as well.

Nice Knife

A lot of positives to this knife. It's a bright color. This is the attention to detail that I like about Gerber knives. It's nice a bright so after hunting and cleaning up and you start to pick everything up to drag back to camp- you can do one last look around and notice you left your knife behind. The other positive about the handle is that it is 'empty'. These hollowed out sections have decreased the weight. When you are backpacking or hunting and carrying heavy loads, every little ounce matters. This makes it much lighter. Even though you have given up the ounces in the handle, the blade is very very sturdy. It does not feel as if it will break or fall apart easily. The other thing I like is how it clicks into place. If you are out camping and trying to cook dinner you don't want to 'sorta' slide it into the sheath only to have it fall out and get lost. If you view a knife as a tool and you take care of it, it will be useful for you. And knowing it's in the sheath is part of taking care of it.The blade came sharpened and with my casual use around the house it held up well. I anticipate it would do the same in the wilderness despite the fact that it will get more use out in the wild.My experience with Gerber knives is positive and this looks to be no different. I anticipate being able to use this often in the future.

Flimsy Sheath

This knife came with a good edge. It is very thin and lightweight. I am looking forward to field dressing an animal with it. The sheath is where this knife fails. They were so close. This sheath does not lock the knife into place. An upside down mount on a pack will result in a lost knife. Why Gerber? A flimsy and disappointing fit.

Nice knife, not so sure about the system....

Gerber makes nice knives, and this is a typically nice Gerber knife. It's a little unusual in that it has a full-length tang under a skeleton handle. So what you see is a blade, wrapped in a cage of colored metal at the handle.I'm not sure this makes the knife as convenient to use as a full-sized handle. If you need to really bear down in using the knife, you'll be concentrating the pressure on a narrower band of skin than with a normal handle. But it looks cool, utilitarian and minimalist, and I think that's the point. The operating conceit of this knife is that it is one component in a three-part set that includes a short saw and a caper knife (sharp and short for gutting an animal's head). All three tools can be overlapped and snapped together at their holsters in order to fit on a belt.I don't expect to buy the other components of the set, so this set's specific utility is wasted on me. Nevertheless, it's a nice knife. IF you would like to carry all three components of this kit with you while camping or hunting, this becomes a much cooler knife because of its unique ability to be paired with the saw and caper knife. If not, this is just a nice and somewhat unusual Gerber drop-point knife.
