Batman the Caped Crusader 1 Paperback – August 21, 2018

Some of the best of Batman stories told. Back in a more simple time of Batman. Which is the best in my opinion. Less is more. These stories are timeless and beautiful to read through. Buy it.

Jim Starlin was definitely someone I warmed up to as it went on. He never stayed away from the grimness of the source material where others at that time might of. Now the next course of action is to read Death in the family since thats a large gpa in this volume.

I like this collection. It is more compact than the Legends Collection, but the volume and the paper are lighter. It is more comfortable to carry around. Thus, if you were a Batman reader from the eighties, late eighties, this is quite a nice collection of stories. It is my first time reading these stories. I confess I was unimpressed by the KGBeast story, the serial killer who gets killed by a would-be victim, and the haunted house story in the Batman Annual. Nevertheless, the issues after that were quite compelling to read. No usual villains ere in these stories: Organized crime, a deranged sniper gone berserk, drug traffickers from South America, and the League of Assassins. There is also a different kind of relationship with Jason Todd. The new Jason is still impulsive and it leads him into dangerous waters. Jason’s route lends this latter period a darker and sadder tone. My favorite story in this volume is "You Shoulda Seen Him..." narrated from the point of view of a SWAT member and two police officers. Each tells a story of an encounter with the Batman, showing three different perspectives of the Dark Knight. There was also an interesting Robin solo story. The only story that I really disliked was the haunted house tale in the Anniversary issue. I didn't like the story or the artwork that gives Bruce a weird appearance. Jim Starlin writes most of these stories; Jim Aparo, Dick Giordano, Dave Cockrum, and Doc Bright illustrate them. Nice collection overall.

So glad they decided to reprint all the immediate post-Crisis stuff in order. Some of these stories aren't as good as I remember them, but they were trying new things out as the 80's were coming to end. Lots of great artwork. So glad to have the Ten Knights of the Beast story in my collection again.

Great Book !

This is the Batman I know. If you grew up in the late 80s and 90s like me you'll love this.

I’m glad to see DC finally doing a comprehensive collection of the Post-Crisis Batman and Detective Comics issues and hope this series of trades will continue right up to the “Knightfall” story. This particular collection is more like Volume 2 as the issues preceding those collected here were released in the “Second Chances” book. My only major complaint is that this book leaves out issues #426-429 which is the classic “Death in the Family” story. If you want a continuous reading experience you have to stop after #425 and go grab a separate book (if you have it) to read that story and then come back to this book for the follow-up. Kind of a pain, but minor compared to the fact that a lot of the material here is being collected for the first time.

This are the Batman stories of my childhood. It brought memories can't wait for the next volume.

La portada es diferente, no se porque Amazon no lo actualiza. Pero fuero de eso, el libro llego en excelentes condiciones.Perfecto para aquellos que desean leer mas sobre Jason Todd en sus orígenes, cuando aún era Robin, antes de A Death In The Family.

Nice collection of late 80s batman stories

Finalmente a DC parece estar preocupada em reunir as histórias do morcego em ordem cronológica, pós Crise nas Infinitas Terras. Eu sempre tive o prazer de ler a maioria dessas histórias, as mais clássicas como "Dez Noites da Besta" que está inclusa aqui e "Morte na Família", são mais fáceis de se achar no Brasil. No entanto as edições e arcos que se passam por entre esses arcos mais famosos, talvez tenham sido coletados apenas na época das mensais da Abril ali no final dos anos 80 e começo dos 90. Com roteiros de Jim Starlin e arte do grande Jim Amparo, nós temos aqui um desenvolvimento e uma construção mais densa para a morte do novo Robin, Jason Todd, com Starlin em sua personalidade mais agressiva e impulsiva. As histórias tem um forte teor detetivesco, o que sempre cai muito bem com o morcego. Destaque para o arco "As Dez Noites da Besta" e a história em que o Jason se vinga de um cara que abusava de uma mulher que acaba por cometer suicídio, o final da história gera uma dúvida nos leitores e no homem-morcego sobre um acontecimento chocante envolvendo Robin. Só não dou as 5 estrelas, porque ao invés de realmente coletar tudo cronologicamente, os volumes possuem buracos que são justamente os arcos mais famosos como "Morte na Família", que a DC prefere coletar de forma separada, no mais é uma bola dentro da editora e quem ganha somos nos fãs!A coleção The Caped Crusader, reunirá as edições da publicação Batman. Enquanto a coleção The Dark Knight Detective reune a publicação Detective Comics. Ambas valem muito a pena!
