Great boots and info on others I have tried

I have bought 5-7 different types of dog boots over the past 3 winters for our soon to be 3-year-old Irish Setter.Information on Dog/Use: 50lb. Irish Setter, lives downtown Chicago, goes out a minimum of 3 hours every day sometimes more & for longer periods of time.I am always rotating two sets of boots--a set worn in the am will dry all day & won't be worn again until that night. If your dog needs to wear boots I would HIGHLY recommend you use/rotate at least two sets otherwise they won't be given adequate time to dry & will get really stinky. My main criteria for boots are that they are easy/fast to get on, fit dogs paws, stay on and hold up to at least 3 months of high use.Past Boots I have tried or used-Pawz, Black, M: Very difficult to get on, dog was wearing them as "bracelets" within 30 seconds bc they had ripped to shreds. I have not seen these balloon boots work for active dogs that are over 30lbs.-Ruffwear Summit Trex, Storm Grey, Size 2.5: these boots were nearly impossible to get on with the tight socks like opening--returned for that very reason.-Ultra Paw, Black, Size M: these are originally difficult to get on the first few times at there is pads/foam bumpers in the ankle area which help to keep the boots on once outside but also make them tricking to initial get the dogs paw in. Pros- these are relatively cheap on any website ranging from $20-35. Cons- cheaply made, very slippery and plastic cracks/rips within a few months of use.-Kurgo Step Strobe Boots, Yellow/Grey, Size M: difficult to get on originally but gets easier with time as they have a longer neck (think doggy high tops). Pros- these have a bungie and Velcro strap that secures them on your dog’s paws. They have held up really well and are likely going to last us 1.5 winters (every other pair is one winter at best). Cons- lights burned out fast and after 3 months of use two boots started to get cracks in the sole where the battery pack for the lights is located. However, considering the rest of the shoe is fine I made a tiny cut with a exact knife, removed the batteries and used a ton of "Shoe Goo" glue on them.-Canine Equipment, Black, Size M: these are by far the best boots and we are on our 3rd pair in 3 years. I consistently keep one of these sets in Keenan's rotation. Pros: they open very wide making it really easy to get on your dog’s paw. They come with two boots for the front paws and two for the back paws--this size difference helps with appropriate sizing (dogs front paws are bigger than their back). Pretty good trends on soles, not as nice as the Ruffwear Vibram soles but they do the job. Cons- they can be expensive ~$50-65 a set and you have to make sure not to set them on wool rugs, etc. as the Velcro will grab it and over time they will not stay as secure & we have occasionally had a boot go flying in the air.-Ruffwear Polar Trex, Forest Green, Size 2.5: I had high hopes for these boots and rightfully so at $100 a set. Pros- very high quality bootsCons- impossible to get on dog’s paws, were much smaller than other brands listed for 2.5" dog paws, zipper cover at the top of fabric did not actually cover the zipper once it was on the dog’s paws. I was concerned that will any amount of extended use (30minutes) they would start to rub and cause a hot spot on my dog’s ankle/leg. I bought them from Myhoovesandpaws store and have started the return process. I will update review once I know how that Amazon store handles their return process.

Happy Paws

First off, I always made fun of dogs in clothes let alone shoes. However, The first time I went to to the snow with Betty Dog we spent 4 plus hours walking around in the forest in mostly California hard packed snow knee deep at worst in some spots. I figured she is a dog; she has fur and paws what else more does she need. I was way wrong. The entire outing, not once did she show any signs of paw trauma. Once we got home she could barely walk. One of her pads was cut and others were severely raw from the ice/snow. Betty is an outdoor dog, 5 year old 80lb pit bull whom goes hiking with me often, she has never had any prior problems that I know of.I was expecting her to chew at her feet with these dog shoes on. To my surprise, she did not try to take them off, she actually likes them. Weirdo!! Anyways I HIGHLY recommend these shoes. I was disappointed to learn they were made in China as I saw some on ebay for half price that looked nearly identical without brand name sewn on it also made in China. Even with the return policy I am keeping these ones as they are good quality not GREAT but good. Not to mention my dog and her paws are worth more than $52.00. I will be going to the snow in a week or so and will update experiences, as of now just a walk in the park.has been tried thus far.Side note: The shoes for the back paws are slightly smaller which few of the manufactures do when purchased in a set of four. The size chart is right on just remember to measure with weight on the paw not in a relaxed or held off the floor position. As the paw expands when they stand on it.

Size is a bit on the small side.

Boots seem really nice, but the sizing is a bit on the small side. I followed the size chart with my dogs measurements, but the large wouldn't fit onto his back feet, and the front pair seemed too tight. They do seem like very nice boots though, I've previously bought much more expensive boots and these ones seem like they could be better. They have two velcro straps to keep them on, and the front boots stayed on very well even if they didn't fit quite right.I didn't purposefully examine the bottom, but I moved it around plenty while trying to get it on, and it's somewhat flexible but definitely feels like it would be thick enough to protect from hot concrete and stuff like goatheads.I felt around the inside and it felt like it was lined with something soft, which is mildly concerning to me since dogs cool off through their paws. So I'd prefer his shoes be very breathable, incase he has to wear them for an extended period. But I didn't purposefully examine that either, so it could be plenty breathable after all.I'll edit my review once I've received the correct size.

The solution to our paw woes!

This is an excellent set of boots. I have a service dog and his paws need to be protected from the very hot asphalt in the summer. We also use boots when hiking to avoid injury from the sand spurs, sharp rocks, etc. I had originally purchased the Ruffwear Summit Trex boots because that's what many service dog handlers use and recommend. Unfortunately those boots hit right on top of my dog's dew claws, causing irritation. They also tended to fall off. The Canine Equipment boots were a little more expensive but completely worth the money! They go up over the dew claw and have a soft material inside and do not cause irritation. He doesn't have to wear boot liners or socks with these. They also have a much better closure system and they stay on well. I can't speak to their durability as we've only used them a few times so far, but you can't beat the quality.

Great boot for active large breed dogs

The boots are excellent and lasted for over a month and a half keeping our rottie’s paws dry and protected but unfortunately the rubber sole on the back foot boot is coming off (see picture). It’s just the one boot but it defeats the “keeping dry” purpose we need it for. I’m hoping to contact the store to see about a replacement. The boots stayed on during walks, running and playtime and this was a huge plus!If it wasn’t for the rubber coming off the boot I would give it a full 5 star rating.
