After finishing his second bag Eddie is a different dog

Dogs are like people in that the same foods won't agree with every dog. Avoderm may not be right for your dog but it has transformed Eddie. I took over Eddie's care when a friend's circumstances changed. Eddie (a mix of many breeds - a 55lb mostly black, long-haired dog) came to me at the age of 13, with large patches of missing hair, scratching constantly, lots of pink skin and he smelled terrible. He was a mess. At first, I thought many of his issues were age related. It took a couple of weeks and some reading before I realized he probably had a food allergy. If this were the case, I figured it would not be be too difficult or expensive to try to solve so after a bit more reading I ordered his first bag of Avoderm Senior. I gradually starting adding Avoderm to his other food so as not to shock his digestive system. After about a week he was on pure Avoderm. At the same time I got rid of all treats that contained any grain. Once these two things were done the changes began in earnest. If I could have imagined the transformation I would have taken "before" photos but at that time Eddie wasn't a photogenic dog and I never considered how much he would change. After about 5 days on a straight Avoderm diet (and grain free treats) the areas of missing hair began noticeably filling in. He still needed a bath once a week not to stink horribly and he still itched terribly, and his skin was still pink, but I figured - a step in the right direction so hang in there and see. By the time he was near the end of the first bag (about 6 weeks) the only remaining areas of sparse fur or baldness were his back feet, a portion of his tail and his chest near his front legs. His skin was still pinkish and he still scratched a bit but nothing like before. He could go longer between baths before the odor was unbearable. His energy was noticeably improved. So, I ordered a second bag. Eddie recently finished that and started on his third bag. He has now been on Avoderm Senior for a bit over three months and has had no wheat, corn or soy from other sources. I last bathed him over a month ago and still no no unpleasant odor. The last bald spot on his tail finished filling in about 2 weeks ago and his fur is now thick and lustrous. In fact he looks too heavy because his fur is so thick around his haunches - where his worst bald spots used to be though his actual weight is almost unchanged. All the hair under his belly and on his legs has filled in. He had circles around his eyes that I was sure were age related, but they have disappeared too as the hair there filled in. None of his skin is pink and he rarely scratches. His energy levels are so good that it's almost annoying but also a delight to see. When we go outside he runs very fast, bounces and plays like you'd expect from a much younger dog. He seems very healthy and happy now. The transformation is nothing short of amazing. Avoderm may not be right for your dog, but if you suspect your canine friend suffers from food related issues it's worth a try. If it doesn't agree with your dog then try something else but if it does and if you see improvement, hang in there for a while. It probably took a long time for your dog's problems to manifest so it will take some time for them to resolve but this just might be what you friend needs to feel better.

Worked for my dogs!

This was recommended by my dogs’ vet. My dogs are both seniors, the brown one is 10, the blonde one is 12. One of my dogs was having skin issues, hot spots and those nasty yeast infection on her paws. They’re on their second bag, and I think it’s working because their coats are looking better than when they were on their previous food. And the brown one’s skin issues are resolving with the help of her other meds of course. Will definitely stick with this food for my babies.

Good Product for Helping to Eliminate Hot Spots

I have an elderly dog with some pretty extreme skin sensitivities who is prone to "hot spots". I switched to this food on the recommendation of a holistic veterinarian, and it has drastically improved his skin condition. For the first time in five years, we made it through the summer and fall without putting him on an expensive series of treatments that include steroid shots, antibiotics, and prescription topical medications. He did get some minor skin irritations at the height of July and August, but they did not turn into the large, bloody ulcers that they have been in the past. Were were able to deal with it through more frequent baths, application of an inexpensive rash cream, and keeping the hair trimmed on the parts of his body that are more prone to developing spots. We have tried fish oil, avocado oil, and canned food that is grain free and high in healthy fats in the past. They kept the hot spots at bay, but gave him digestive problems. This product appears to be the magic bullet for eliminating both issues. On the negative side, this food does have a higher fat content than most senior formulas, so it is not good for elderly dogs with liver problems or kidney issues. I have also noticed that the kibble leaves a greasy residue in the dog bowl, so more frequent cleaning is sometimes necessary. I bought a second bowl to have one to swap out while the other is being washed and dried. I used to run his bowl through the dishwasher once a week. With this food, I can make it three days.

Avoderm helped my dogs

About 6 months ago our dogs were having problems with their coats & getting hot spots. Their fur looked like it had sullen, it wasn't as shiny & soft as it had been in the past. And their skin was irritated in random spots on their hinds & arms. Without jumping the gun and spending a ton on a vet bill we decided to do some research on the food we were giving them and found this Avoderm online. I read a lot about it online and only saw positive reviews. Still, I decided to visit a local pet store with some higher end food brands. One of the employees there recommend trying it because avocados are used in the food and it had helped one of her smaller dogs with the same kind of issues. Sure enough after about 2 solid months on this food the dogs were much happier. The coats turned back to their beautiful, shiny, softness and the skin issues seemed to dissipate as well. They have not had any problems with their coats or skin since I've changed their diet to Avoderm.

dogs cannot have the pit or skin but the meat is fine. I went onto the Avoderm website to find ...

I work with dogs for a living and I am very familiar with pet nutrition. I have a 9 year old 80lb Chow/lab mix. I have been giving him this food since he turned 7. I chose this food because it has higher levels of Glucosamine and Chondroitin than any other senior or large breed food I could find. I was giving him Natural Balance and adding hip and joint supplements before and the levels were still lower and it was not working as well, and it was costing me twice as much. I know some people have had concern about the "dogs are not supposed to have avocado" thing. I have looked into that and from what I found, dogs cannot have the pit or skin but the meat is fine. I went onto the Avoderm website to find out how their food was processed. They have the avocados separated at another facility making sure nothing gets into the food that shouldn't. I was happy with this. So, since being on this food my boy hasn't shown any difficulty getting up or moving and I've saved money...so YAY!
