JBL PRX 425
I recently ordered a pair of JBL PRX 425 with a Behringer NX3000 amp to compliment my system I already have.I already have (2) JBL PRX 615, (2) JBL PRX 618SXLF, and (2) JBL PRX 712.I was torn between the 425 and the 825, because of being my first passive speaker. Everything else I already have is powered, but the 400 series is a near match to my 600 series cabinets. It'll compliment the sound in some ways. The drivers are VERY different, the sound range is very different, and lastly the volume is listed as very different. So their not really an upgrade or similar. However, I took a risk. I ordered the 425 and paired them up beside my 615 without the subs, just to compare the sound. The 425 (with 900w @ 4ohm) seem to have a similar volume output, but the sound is very different. Not a bad different, but they are more mid and mid bass than my 615 can deliver. The 615 seem to sound processed which is expected with a powered speaker and the highs and deep lows (30hz-40hz) really come through the 615 more. Then I walked out my garage, down the driveway, 150 feet away. The 425 kept the sound and "threw" the sound 2x or 3x better than my 615 did at this length. I was sold and I'm glad I ordered the 425, and I'm keeping them.I'm sure the 825 are louder, and better toned than the 425 (5+ years in sound development and a powered box) but for anyone looking to use the 400 series with the 600 series, they actually work wonderful together. No phasing to my ear and when firing everything all at once, the sound actually complimented each other (425 and 615m). I saved about $200 with my purchase of the 425 compared to the 825 and they match the look and feel of what I already had. Next I'm going to try out the 418s with my 618XLF to see how they do together. I'm a skeptic again, but after my first attempt of the 400 series, it worked out great.
