Someone mentioned putting salt in the water for the Warm Mist Humidifier will make it louder.  This is NOT an old fashioned vaporizer that requires a little salt. This warm mist humidifier works with a heating element to boil the water, more like an immersion heater.  Adding salt will not make the water boil faster or louder, but will cause salt deposits to form on the heating element much faster than if you use plain water.  No benefit from adding salt, only degradation.

Someone mentioned "a raspy, high-pitched boiling water sound that I could hear 30 feet away in a different room."  I get that sometimes, ONLY after standard maintenance cleaning to get the salt deposits off the heating element and nearby parts.  It is quite loud, with the sound of boiling resonating inside the hollow plastic chimney.  After about 24 hours, the loud boiling sound calms to a quiet boiling sound.  I can't completely explain it; I figure some new mineral deposits are attenuating the noise, somehow.  So, the unit is usually quiet, but it's loud when the unit was just cleaned, in my experience.

The first time I cleaned the unit and it became so loud, I was ready to return it.  But I procrastinate, and the next day, it was fine, again.  I think I'll keep her.

Can you use essential oils or some type of mint to clear sinuses with this?

Where is made in?

Of course, it's made in China.  I wish it weren't.  I have had this product for 3 years now.  It works great if you keep it maintained.  You MUST clean the heating element on a regular basis; every couple of weeks is ideal.  If you don't, it won't work efficiently.  The element needs to be clean.  I use city tap water.  If you use well water, it will have more buildup.  I fill it every day in the winter for my small living room/kitchen area, and am also getting one for my bedroom.
