Studor 20381 Redi-Vent Air Admittance Valve with Recessed Box and Grill, White

Vent access at the top of the wall for a bathtub that was moved to an interior wall, rather than the deficient previous owner who buried one in the wall.

I have a saying- if you can think of something you need, someone has already made it, and in most cases is patented and works better than anything you can come up with in a short period of time.This is a great way to conceal the Studor vent! Most people and even plumbers drill a hole in the countertop for an unsightly install, or bury under the cabinet below the sink, where it won't work as well, and is harder to maintain.I installed this in the wall above, and for my utility sink, in a remote room where my washer and sink shared the same drainline, and were 'wet venting' each other- so one would drain the other's trap when you used it, and P-U!There is a vent, but much further than the specified 4' away, so just wasn't close enough. I agonised over sending a vent pipe into the attic and joing up with the main stack, but would have been a most unpleasant job.This was easy to install- just had to add a couple of 22-1/2 deg. ells to get it inline with the sanitary tee, and then modify the tabs on top to attach to a timber I installed right above the box.Studor loses a point b/c they molded strap do-dads on top, but didn't give me a strap! So I took my Fein Multimaster and removed the two front tabs, drilled 3 holes with countersink, and attached to the timber. Worked great. The side tabs would work, but you are not likely to ba able to use both sides, and your plumbing is usually in the middle- so more elaborate elbow work would be needed.The louver will be nice- I just hope it survives removal and re-installation if I have to replace the valve. I can always drill and set back with screws in plastic anchors I suppose... very nice.

I was going to buy an AAV and then I needed an access panel and it was going to look fairly bad. This kit mde for a nice installation and has everything to add an AAV to 1 1/2" or 2" drain line.

First time I used a vent like this. It seems to work well and I have no issues with the shower or washing machine draining. The housing and cover are adjustable and look great

If you are this far then you probably are familiar with the application of a studor vent, thus I will discuss more the use of hte recess box in conjunction with the vent itself.Installation as you would expect is straight forward if you are used to working with PVC and plumbing as a DIY person. The more difficult part was lining up the box with a pvc pipe that was not installed plum. I advise you to consider that prior to installing and cutting your wall etc. Additionally one nice thing is that the faceplate has varying levels of teeth that allow for different sizes of drywall. This is nice as very few houses have perfectly aligned walls with PVC piping etc. In my case it worked out well and fit a crooked setup for a perfect finish product! Highly suggest if this fits your situation
