Kitschmasland!: Christmas Decor from the 1950s to the 1970s

Love this book! If you like looking at pictures this is a great book for you. It does have brief descriptions along with the photos.

I am a purveyor of kitsch. I own a Tiki bar and collect vintage Floridiana and flamingos. My goal is to make my house look like a Stuckey's circa 1965. My Christmas tree is aluminum and dates from the 1940s. Nothing irks me more than people who purchase books with the word "kitsch" in the title than complain because the book is about kitsch. This has happened with every single book I have bought about kitsch and I am so tired of reading these reviews. If kitsch is in the title, don't expect tasteful stuff. Seriously. Why would anyone would buy a book about kitsch then complain that it was about kitsch? I almost didn't buy this book because of a couple of the reviews. What a mistake that would have been! This book is wonderful. It is chock-a-block full of bright, clear photographs of Christmas kitsch. It's terrific. I have Susan Waggoner's book and am a huge fan of Tim Hollis. I would encourage anyone to check-out their books. However, for pure visual fun, this is marvelous. No, it isn't a guide to decorating your home with kitsch. There isn't a lot of text either. If you want the history of this stuff you would be advised to look elsewhere. I suggest Googling. I hesitate to call this a "Collector's Guide" because some of those are lacking in photos and this is packed with pictures. Lots and lots of bright, clear photographs of vintage kitschy Christmas items. My only complaint with the book is that I am not so sure about some of the prices on stuff. As an avid eBay fan prices tend to fluctuate on a daily basis and some of these seem off, but I really didn't purchase this as a price guide. Frankly, I find Christmas sort of depressing and it is only my affection and yearly indulgence in the kitsch of yore that gets me through it. This book is delightful and every fan of kitsch should have a copy on their book shelf. Mine is nestled right between my vintage Cypress Gardens postcards and Mold-o-Rama mermaids. (If you don't like kitsch, PLEASE don't buy the book.)

This book is perfect for the vintage kitsch collector. The colors and photos are great as is the description of the objects. The pages are glossy and not the least bit flimsy. Great book!!

Photos are great. Excellent reference for some vintage Christmas items like Gurley candles, blow molds , various ornaments, etc.

Thought the book would contain more of a description of the items. Prices are not what items are going for on Ebay, etc either. I did not enjoy this book.

Another reviewer here bemoans this book as an average "price guide" book for collectors, with pictures no larger than an inch square and relatively small information. In spite of that review, I trusted my gut, went with the other reviews here (all 5 stars) and purchased this book for myself. I'm glad to report, while there is an element of "price guide" within the photographs and descriptions, "Kitschmasland!" is a beautiful book to enjoy in its own right, whether you're a buyer/seller of decorative Christmas items or just someone who enjoys nostalgia and holiday memories like me. The color photographs are generally much larger than an inch (most take up an appreciable section of the whole page) and are crisply reproduced. There are many lovely set pieces of decorated rooms, and enough close-ups of ornaments and other particular items to satisfy anyone looking to revel in specific memories of Christmas past. I mean no disrespect to the aforementioned reviewer, but I found this collectors book to be much better than a spare price guide. Recommended!

A great trip down vintage lane. Beautiful color photos on glossy pages with brief descriptions under most photos. Just enough text to make it interesting while showcasing all areas of Christmas decor. What a great find!

Went for the used option which turned out was just like new with a quarter off the price, really pleased with book and price

Bought it for my son in law for Christmas. He was thrilled with it and could not put it down over the holiday.

Full of lovely pictures of ornaments and Mid Century interiors, very inspirational and nostalgic. Highly recommended for those of us who love a vintage Christmas :)
