Truper MG-PY-P Replacement Handles for Long D-Handle Shovels 26" (66cm)

You can't dig very deep where I live without hitting clay and rock. I broke the original handle (it was old) and I hated to go to the store and get a new shovel. I prefer to keep using my tools, and repair them as I go. I got this handle because it was close to my original handle. I did have to reduce the shaft where it fits in the socket which I did with a knife and sander. My shovel is back in service, and handling embedded rocks like new.

I bought this to replace the broken handle in our old shovel that still have plenty of life. As others have stated, I had to use a sander to taper and shape the end before it would fit snuggly inside the shaft opening. I was mildly annoyed that it didn't come with a fastening rivot (and I refused to pay nearly $6 for one) so I drilled a hole and secured the end with a nut/bolt/locking washer. After tightening the nut, I sawed of the end of the bolt and hammered it flat to prevent it from becoming loose. Now it's good for another 10+ years!

The handle fit well after some minor sanding and fitting. The handle did not come with rivets so I used screws to keep the handle tight to the shovel. Good fit and is strong enough to do the job. The angle of the curve coming up from the shovel is a little different, but not a concern.

My wide aluminum shovel is now better than new. This is excellent and a real bargain!

Finding handles and repair parts like this for repairing tools and gardening equipment is getting harder and harder as the years pass byWell made and sturdy. This will keep my shovels going for another 20 or so yearsAND it's reasonably priced!

I've leaned on it a lot and it hasn't broken like the original one. So I guess its good. The only thing better would be a steel one.

Handle fit perfect and has a nice feel.
