Justice League Volume 4 ended on a cliffhanger with the introduction of the Crime Syndicate, aka the evil version of the Justice League. Though you'd think Volume 5 would be a continuation of that story, the real successor collection is the event/volume Forever Evil, which carries on the main thread of the Crime Syndicate's invasion and the unexpected resistance lead by some of DC's biggest villains. This JL TPB, though, is more like a side dish to that main event. It focuses on some of the origins for the Crime Syndicate members, as well as on Cyborg teaming up with Metal Men to defeat his evil doppelganger, the Grid. It's good supplemental material, but it doesn't actually move the story forward. I would recommend reading Forever Evil first and only coming to this TPB if and only if you really enjoyed Forever Evil and want more background. Otherwise this particular volume is pretty easily replaced by Forever Evil, and you might be better of focusing there.

Yes this is more of a companion to forever evil so you NEED to read forever evil first or look up the issues reading order in Google its kinda hard but worth it, story amazing artwork amazing too so definitely recommend this book to everyone

So far, this has been my favorite volume in the series. I'm really enjoying it, and I already purchased the next volume!

The story is a much needed set-up between Justice League Trinity War and Forever Evil, would've rated it 5 stars for the story and art alone, but Amazon had to put their label stickers "new" on the book cover itself without any cling/plastic wrap. Ruined the book experience/aesthetic

Good but not as good as previous volumes. You wont see any justice league member in it other than cyborg. All are trapped by an evil team "crime syndicate" (group of evils from other world who look like members of justice league and have great powers) and the book is about their origin. You need forever evil to complete the storyline.

Justice league volume 5 is a must have book. Because it's an ideal place to start before you read forever evil. The first half of the book tells you the backstory of most of the characters that represent the crime syndicate in series of flashbacks. Explaining the backgrounds of ultraman, owlman, Johnnie quick, power ring and, deathstorm.The second half explains the story of remaining justice league member cyborg a.k.a Victor stone. Who persuades his father to rebuild him. Giving cyborg a newer more advanced body and, cybernetics. Cyborg team's up with the metal men to help him battle the grid. Victors old cybernetic body that rejected him.The writing by Geoff johns is done really well and, the artwork is as impressive as ever. I've already downloaded forever evil onto my kindle fire. I'm looking forward to reading it.
