National Geographic Pocket Guide to Trees and Shrubs of North America

This series is books are our absolute favorite. My 8-10 year old boys love them. We have all 8 in the set. I can not recommend them enough. I wish they had more like these.

I also have a Peterson’s Field Guide for trees, which gives more information about each entry and actually has more trees shown than the National Geographic book.

This book is a great resource. The pictures and review of each variety are well written and give accurate information.

I love to know what the trees and plants are called . My mom and dad taught us all the common ones and some of the less common. With this guide you can easily find names and species of all the trees you come across.

This is a must have, if you enjoy nature walks or camping it'll be fun to take along. Also great book for families to explore with children.

When you find the tree you're looking for, this guide has good information on trees.But, finding what you're looking for is not so easy. The intro says that gymnosperms (conifers) are covered first, then angiosperms. That's fine, but there is no info at all as to how things are arranged inside of those sections. (It's almost as if something were cut from the intro, as it starts out "The guide is organized in several ways" but then only describes the major breakdown.But this means if I see a tree I want to identify, I have to look through many pages to find what I'm looking for. It really needs better organization within the major sections.

I was interested in being able to identify local trees not being from the US originally. This little book is an excellent reference. 👌

This book covers too vast of an area to include all relevant species. They should have 4 editions of this book alone covering different regions. I’d recommend a different title
