So much better than a disposable poncho

I'm a 6'2"/280 lbs weight lifter so I was nervous about this fitting my unusual body size. It fit perfectly, is comfortable, and was easy to put back into the storage pouch afterwards. I hate wearing the disposable ponchos due to the sauna effect where I get so hot that I sweat profusely leaving me wonder why didn't just get rained on instead (because the rain doesn't smell like a gym sock). This well made poncho is breathable so I didn't overheat. It's worth paying extra.

I would buy again

Lightweight, keeps you dry,it's also long enough to cover my pack when hiking However if you don't cinch it down it will blow in the wind, it does do it's job

It will do fairly nicely for what I have in mind

It will do fairly nicely for what I have in mind. I will stick it in my backpack and use it for emergency rainstorms I may get caught in. I was looking for lightweight, which it is. It seem semi-durable. I think if you walked into a tree branch or shrub it would likely get punctured. It's not real heavy weight and is not woven material. That being said, if you don't walk into a sharp stick this thing should shed the rain very well. It has some nice draw strings on the hood. With the addition of a ball cap you should keep your head and face very dry. All in all it is pretty much what I was looking for and should do what I want it to do nicely. I hovered between a 4 star and 5 star. I gave it 4 because I think it might not hold up over long use. I see it as a 6-12 time use item. I think after that many uses it will see a few holes in it. But hey, it is what it is and I'm not complaining. The storage pouch is a nice touch. Roll it up, stick it in the pouch, put it in the back pack. Away you go. Rain storm come on.

backpacking horror story

I used this for a lightweight backpacking trip in some national forest in Ojai, CA. I knew it would rain, but didn't know how rough the trip was going to be. I'm thrilled with the light weight! If you are a backpacker or traveller of any kind, it doesn't take long to realize that every ounce counts, and every mile is either behind you with relative ease or or lies agonizingly ahead of you. The problem with lightweight camping amd travel gear is that it can be outrageously expensive. This poncho is an awesome deal. We hiked 5 miles into wilderness and set up camp before it began to drizzle off and on. All four of us set up our mixture of tents and hammocks at camp, ate, played around in the woods, built a fire, and prepared to hunker down in the rain and enjoy the experience. Three of us were gathering firewood for the night, chopping and splitting logs, gathering sticks, when one of the guys mistook his foot for the log he was chopping up. To make a long story short, he limped his way down the mountains with one of the guys who is an emt, and left his pack behind for the remaining two of us to carry down. That's when it started to rain like cats and dogs, of course. I was proud that my pack weighed the least of all at 30lbs, and made fun of my clumsy friend for carrying a 50lb monstrosity, now the joke was on me! Me and the other guy used a dead tree as a poll to carry the extra backpack between us over our shoulders or hooked under our arms or any other way we could to get that blasted thing down the mountain. 6 hours and a dozen river crossings later we made it down exhausted and beat up. Bottom line is that I was absolutely amazed at how this poncho held up! It may be lightweight, but I can assure you that it's one tough fabric! We pushed through brush, got lost in the dark rainy night, and I had that poll grinding at my shoulders and side the whole time. I was bruised and sore for a week, this poncho had surprisingly little wear and no holes or tears, I couldn't believe it! I got a little wet, but that was inevitable under those circumstances. The moral of the story is that you should buy this poncho, and if your friend chops his foot or breaks a leg just leave his stuff.BTW he made it out ok, but most of his scotch "fell out" on the way down.

Good, durable and better than cheap plastic poncho

I am tired of being caught in the rain, and I also hate the cheap one-time-use (or so it seems because they rip so easily) ponchos, so I bought one of these Frogg Toggs and am happy with it. If you take the time to fold it up tight, you can easily get it back into its original holder, which makes it pretty convenient to throw into a backpack or large purse to carry with you. It's lightweight. It's not as suffocating as the cheap plastic ponchos. I had to wear it a few times in the summer heat when a pop-up thunderstorm appeared and it wasn't too overbearing in the heat. I have purchased a total of three and two teenage boys wore the other two and they haven't managed to ruin them yet, so I will call them pretty sturdy ponchos. Our main use for them so far has been to use at an amusement park and for camping because, of course, we can't go camping without it raining. Also, another big plus for me is, when I have to pack these up after a rainstorm and they're still wet, and then say it rains a few hours later and we have to get them back out, they're dry and do not have a funky smell.

Excellent product, but not the absolute lightest frogg Toggs poncho

Okay first of all, I ordered the wrong product, but am very happy with it nonetheless. This is a little heavier than the similar Frog Toggs poncho I've purchased at places like Walmart. I'm into ultralight backpacking and try to minimize my weight as much as possible, right down to the ounces. If you are trying to limit weight to the absolute minimum, I would not recommend this product, but rather get the Frog Toggs poncho that folds up tiny enough to put in your pocket for $5 at Walmart. However, this is a very useful product for colder weather backpacking in the Fall where a little more thickness can be useful. The advantage of this is that it is a little thicker than the super lightweight version and slightly more resistant to tears. I'm not sorry about the purchase at all and I will utilize it in my colder weather hikes, but for summer hikes I'll stick with the true ultralight version.

High and Dry

These rain ponchos were the best. They are light weight and durable and kept us dry on those rainy days in Ireland.
