Q: How does this lens compare to the Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD IF lens (Model A001E)

According to many reviews online and on youtube, this new lens with vibration compensation/image stabilization (Canon equivalent) is far superior to the older Tamron 70-200mm without VC. According to most reviews, the Tamron has better IQ than even the 70-200mm benchmark (the famous Canon 70-200mm F2.8L IS lens). The Tamron only suffers from more vignetting and it's AF is tad slower than the Canon. I have this lens and am extremely happy with it. IQ is amazing. The price you can't beat. The only downside (but it's with all lenses in this class) is the size and weight. It's a monster. And, you're sure to get a lot of looks from ppl when you carry this lens around.

Q: Thoughts on this lens vs its Sigma counterpart?

I am very happy with this lens. I have not tried the Sigma. I have the tamron 28-75 and the 70-200 VC both outstanding lenses - fast and sharp. Tamron is slightly more expensive and reviews always slightly higher. Sorry I could not give you more info about the Sigma

Most likely a price below $1499 is from a vendor that is not an authorized Tamron dealer. This means you may not be eligible for any rebates or the 6 year warrantee offered by Tamron. Most authorized dealers are going to set the price at MSRP ($1499). It is up to you if a discounted price is worth giving up any rebates and (more importantly) the 6 years of coverage. Go to http://www.tamron-usa.com/dealers.php to see if the dealer who is selling the lens is an authorized dealer of Tamron. If the cheapest price on Amazon is not from an authorized dealer go to the list of all dealers selling the lens on Amazon and find one that is authorized according to the Tamron website. I just bought this from Murphy's Camera because the rebate and warrantee were more important to me than saving a couple bucks. This is especially true when you consider the lens is not cheap and it would really bum me out if I needed to get it fixed out of warrantee.

Q: does it work with ft-1 adapter in nikon v1 ?

Not sure. I bought the Canon mount version.
