Q: Can the cans be used for more than one time... or do they have to burn to completion each use?

You can smother them with the lids being placed back on but you need a long pair of tongs or a special tool they sell separate with a magnetic end. You have to be really careful not burn yourself. I just let them burn to the end.

Q: could i put a couple drops of scented oil in the can to get a pleasant scent?

I would not try oil in the can of fuel itself, scented candles help to mask the odor, but most effective is pine scented incense sticks. You can light them, place them on the logs to your fireplace or in an incense burner nearby and that will make it smell like a real wood fire. I have been using Christmas Memories by Campfire Products Inc. P.O. Box 86 Kalispell, Montana 59903-0086 phone 406-752-1066 with my Real Flame fireplaces for over 20 years and it works wonderfully to mask the fuel odor. This info may be outdated so do an internet search on the company. :)

They do have an expiration date. But they will still be useable ( in my opinion ) for much longer , if you keep them in a heated , like basement or utility room. Unless your garage is heated. Things change after being frozen.

Q: how long does each can last?

Each can gives off 5,000btu's and lasts approx. 2 3/4 to 3 hours. I use 2 cans and they heat my second floor. I save on oil heat during the winter.
