this book is essential for any artist trying to improve their fundamentals. it breaks down hard concepts into easy chapters and is easy to follow along with. It also has artwork by professional artists and walks you through why they made the decisions they did which is great for learning how a art rule can be applied to a work. I highly recommend this book for anyone trying to improve since it gives you a road to follow so you're not lost on how to improve.

When developing your art skills, a solid grasp of fundamentals is key. This books covers many aspects of those fundamentals and provides a springboard for an aspiring artist to begin from. Consider adding this to your personal art library if you haven't already.

Was a great gift

I'm a traditional artist but I saw a review of this book and had to give it a read. It does cover the use of some traditional mediums but most of the images were created digitally. Art Fundamentals is a really nice book, full of useful info presented in a clear and organized format. The pics are gorgeous and worth studying.TO THE PUBLISHER: PLEASE PLEASE stop putting books into soft envelopes and sending via USPS. Even with the little bit of padding in the envelope the postal carrier managed to seriously damage the book by rolling it up tightly and smashing it into the mailbox along with some clothing I'd ordered and everything else that was delivered. The bottom front of the book is torn and crushed and the whole book doesn't lie flat. It was a real disappointment to open the bag and see the book so mistreated. I would eventually like to order the other two books in this series but am concerned about the condition they'll arrive in. One star off with the hope that this review catches the publisher's attention.

There's a lot to like about this book! In my opinion, how this book addresses "value" and how important it is, cannot be overstated. I can think of very few books, that dedicate an in depth chapter, on value. Value is normally tucked away with color and its components of hue, saturation and value, especially in a broad based book such as this book.Easily one of my favorite books and a book you will definitely re-read and have at the ready for reference.

Great book. Wish it would focus less on the history of art and more on the fundamentals of the techniques of drawing itself but it's still wonderful and very informative

This book is all that beginners nead for a study book. It covers everything. Great buy.
