Parakeets And Budgies - Raising, Feeding, And Hand-Training Your Keet

If you have a parakeet you'll definitely want to purchase this book. This book is very informative and well written. Plus there are some comical parts in the book as well which I thought was great.

This was a gift for a first time owner. Easy to understand

I know nothing about parakeets but was forced to start researching after my elderly mother bought herself one for a gift. I don't know why she thought it would be fully trained and playful right from the store. This book is interesting and definitely helped me with info about feeding, bathing, temps, diseases, standing on one leg(that scared me to death the first time) toys, sleep etc., I was hoping for a lot more info on bonding and what to do when the bird is being stubborn and I feel like I must be doing something wrong/losing patience. What to do if bird absolutely refuses to finger/perch train even when using millet treat, still trying over 2 months. Doesn't like water in any form (mist, shower or bath). I found the only way she'll start chirping and playing (not just jumping from perch to perch) is to play videos of other parakeets-still after two months (she is with me all day every day so she's not lonely). She won't eat pellets, nuggets, greens/fruits no matter what mixing, paste or trick I try so how long do I keep trying. I don't agree with this book or anyone who says to not let the bird out of the cage until it's absolutely hand trained because then it would still be stubbornly sitting in there and not getting any appropriate exercise, therefore I am forced to take it out as I do when we go to the vet for nail trimming, others have said the same thing. Wouldn't mind but she loves it when I touch her nose to give a 'kiss', which is the Only thing she will let me do besides put my hand in to clean or give food, so it's not like she's terrified of me. The book also doesn't give reference to safe, natural branches to use-I found out from the website that branches I were using from trees around me might be toxic-still trying to confirm as some say oak is toxic and others say it's not. My biggest pet peeve is that it doesn't have an index to quickly go back to reference specific info, I was shocked considering that it's a reference book. I don't regret the purchase at all, but I'm definitely having to do a lot of additional research. Don't get mad at me but this bird is a Lot more work and worry than any of my dogs or cats I have/ or had. PS: to all new bird owners-do not get one of those cheap small bird cages (or bird cage kits), get the decent sized one that's at least 26" high and decent width for your sake and the bird/s!

Appears to be pretty good info, but I can hardly judge. Book is inexplicably missing a table of contents and an index. It also has typos in some obvious places, like the back cover, which suggests a poor editing and proofreading job. It'll do for our purposes, but I'll be looking for better.

Great book! Author certainly shows her love for parakeets. My grandson, who just got a parakeet, was absolutely glued to my side while I read it to him. He can’t wait to make toys for his Kerr.

As a new bird mom this book has helped me get to know my birds and what they need.

I gave this book to my father for Christmas. He had just bought a cute little Parakeet but did not know how to train the little thing. He seems to really enjoy this book. Said it is very helpful information.

Packed with information on keets care easy to read and understand

Meh. Not the professional book I was expecting. It was a personal story with emojis in the text and poor grammar.

Expensive book, but as it supposedly covered raising and taming young budgies I bought it for my 13 year old who was in tears this evening thinking his beloved pets are going to die. It’s a health manual and goes through everything that can go wrong, and that is fine, but not what we bought it for. We have a good relationship with our vet and with Google so don’t need this. Clearly author does not think anyone should breed budgies. The judgmental tone would put anyone off! Bit late as we are expecting our 3rd chick to hatch tonight. Horrible layout on pages. And a glaringly obvious spelling mistake…second word in the blurb!!! Don’t waste your money.

I have always kept Budgies and thought I knew a lot about their habits, likes and dislikes. That is until I started reading Lisa's book..It gives a different approach and i have learned so much already. As i had just bought a baby budgie, i thought it a good idea to update myself on bird keeping. So glad i bought the book. i like the way Lisa has written it in sort of sections, so you can skim some sections (if you dare!).This book has given me even more respect for Budgies, reading there origins etc. It would be an ideal gift to any bird lover, young or old. (I am over 70 and it has kept my interest throughout)Well done Lisa.

Please dont waste your money on this book!! No disrespect to author but this book should be for free or atleast cheap because its all common sense and general knowledge! Use google instead, ask pet shop, pet breeders thanks.
