20th Century Master Deserves 21st Century Veneration & Re-Birth

For thoughtful readers who know the work of this field, Bronfenbrenner's contribution in 1978 was a masterpiece of the highest order. In 2017, some of his great lessons have been well learned.Others have not.His great insights deserve to be re-visited and brought into the context of new methods, findings, and more modern modes of thought and technical capabilities.Bernard Z. Friedlander, PhD, University of Hartford & University of Wisconsin-Madison

As a Master candidate student I used the Ecology of Human Development in writing my thesis. I had read articles related to Bronfenbrenner's book. The author describes the ecological environment ... arrangement of concentric structures referred to as the micro, meso, exo, and macrosystems. I found the Ecology of Human Development as a book I can use as a reference. I love working with young children, and the book widen my knowledge as to how the child is viewed in each of the settings. The author writes of how the child develop, and how these systems relate to the child developing. In addition, Bronfenbrenner elaborates on the important of observing the child in these settings. Indeed, I found the book relevance.

Ecology of Human Development explains just that!

Bronfenbrenner demonstrates the importance of using a stratified, systemic model to deconstruct the psychosocial environment that any Social Scientist attempts to understand. The book provides a pragmatic model for deconstructing and exploring each of the six social layers that constitute a sociocultural environment. Moreover it assist in drawing possible causal and correlative connections between the various layers, identifying patters and links. As such this book is useful for any professional that needs to develop interventions or conduct research within a particular sociocultural system. I found it an easy read as well as a useful reference.

Excellent

Should be a required book for every doctoral learner in psychology and other related social sciences. I found it particularly useful in my dissertation discussing the societal system's impact on human behavior.

Bronfenbrenner at his best.

I have been in search of this book at an affordable price for many years. Bronfenbrenner's 'ecological systems' model is a brilliant framework through which to look at inextricable factors present in the individual's developmental environment. His definitions and hypotheses are clearly stated, his argument is sound and thought provoking and he brings together psychological theory and concepts that enhance theoretical understanding.A collector's book, excellent price, condition and valueJudith HudsonWales. love this book

great book ----To understand the way children develop, Bronfenbrenner believes that it is necessary to observe their behavior in natural settings, while they are interacting with familiar adults over prolonged periods of time.

Seminal work on the interaction between the environment and child development

If you are interested in child development then this book is essential reading. For years we have discussed the nature-nurture debate as if the two were mutually exclusive. Bronfenbrenner here presents a model that integrates all the different factors that influence human development - from individual attributes to the culture in which the child is growing up.Not the easiest of reads the book is nonetheless well written with a strong sturcture and logical progression.Highly recommended.
