Great organization and accurate translations, super cool. The phonetic pronunciations are a bit weird but overall super useful for a beginner. It was a used copy but in great condition

It's all Hochdeutsch. If you're looking to learn the softer Austrian dialect, look elsewhere. Still good though

Trip to Germany nice size

It doesn't even have the German word for hello. It seems like it provides way too many phrases for obscure items, and way too few of the common words.Also, would have loved to see a separate section of Southern German words.

I got this for my boyfriend for Christmas and he started reading some phrases right away. He said it was really good and it's a perfect travel size!

The corners were a bit bend over

This book is just the size and amount of content I was hoping! I travel frequently and this is the perfect size to pack in my carry-on bag. I plan to purchase more in the other languages, too!

Cute little book! So fun to read.

Great example ! I didnt know noun and verb are different..... for example, if you bump to someone, you say sorry (noun) but if you bump to someone, you say excuse me (verb) - it is more likely ethics... I understand German more than French becuause of the linguistics - English and German are same branch of Germanic langauge.... French is another story, French is Romance language. The adapt of linguistics are very very big deal... I do not think many have aware on this.

A fantastic little book which gave me a lot of confidence as someone who does not speak any German and recently went on their first trip to Germany. This helps you pronounce things by using English 'words' (basically nonsense but so, so useful) rather than the phonetic alphabet.

I bought this because the cover is gorgeous. 3 star rating because some colour or better layout of topics would have made the phrases more accessible. Having said that, the actual German did help me write a thank you letter to my host family (for a school trip) and the glossary has some useful stuff. Being a good price, if you purchase this, I'd recommend dog-earring important pages and underlining key words/phrases. Alternatively, buy a Lonely Planet one which has nice background info to read, on top of the extremely clear presentation.
