The M-65 Field Jacket was introduced by the US in the late 1960's. This jacket was to replace the existing M-51 and M-43 field jackets, from the Korean War era, and World War II, respectively. The M-65 field jacket was used throughout the Vietnam War, and much after. It was only recently phased out, with the introduction of the ECWCS layering system. The M-65 had a number of improvements over the existing field jackets. Among these improvements were the built in stow-away hood which zips into the collar, extra pockets, shoulder epaulets. The closure buttons were also replaced with a brass zipper, to allow soldiers to open and close their jackets more quickly and easily. The detachable liner (not included) was included to allow dealing with fluctuating temperatures easily.
