Rick Steves Portuguese Phrase Book and Dictionary (Rick Steves Travel Guide)

It was very helpful to have this book with us on our trip to Portugal. Recommend all of Rick Steve’s books!

This is the perfect phrase book for travelling in Portugal. Small enough to put in your pocket or purse and covers all the essential phrases you need. Pay attention to the pronunciation guide, because Portuguese has its own rules and words don't sound anything like they are spelled!Having said all that: you will not use this guide very often when you travel to Portugal unless you are well off the beaten path. Everyone we encountered in out two weeks in Portugal spoke English! All the servers in restaurants, all the hotel staff, all the bus and train ticket agents and conductors - everyone! Get it as a backup, but you will rarely use it.

My boyfriend and I are planning to travel (then move) to Portugal & we wanted to learn some phrases. I am so glad we found this book, we love Rick Steves! I also love the humor throughout the book, like teaching you to say “I am Bill Gates” lol!Totally recommend this book!

We bought this for an upcoming vacation visit to Portugal. Its more extensive than I was expecting. I'd recommend it for those who want to have a handy to access phrase book in their bag.

This little book has a lot of useful words and phrases. Best of all, a lot of it breaks the pronunciation down so it makes sense. I find the pronunciation to be the hardest part of learning Portuguese, so this is helping.

I purchased this book to learn some basic Portuguese for our upcoming trip. It was very concise and well laid out and it gave me all the words I needed to get by traveling for 4 weeks. It is also fun and gives "hip" phrases most other guidebooks don't offer.

Unfortunately, the print is too small for it to be a useful tool for us while traveling. Chose to return it. It would be great for teens though. Hopefully in the future, he will do a larger type version.

Great investment and a life saver when you travel abroad with a limited knowledge of the language

Used it for popular phrases while travelling in Portugal.

I should have invested in more time to look at the reviews of this book instead of assuming that it is just like other Rick Steves' language guides. Whilst the dimension itself « 10.41 x 1.52 x 15.11 cm » is slightly taller than the other language guides « 10.16 x 2.03 x 13.97 cm » it lacks significantly in quantity and quality -- 280 pages vs. 456 pages in other languages. Black & White print for a travel-orientated phrase book in 2023. And lack of content overall with a slight increase of price compared to other languages makes me question the quality control and content review process conducted by Rick Steve and his team.

It’s great for travel and hits all the major travel situations. However I wish the dictionary translation included non-travel related words as well. Sometimes I would need to look up a word in a menu or at a store and it wouldn’t be in there.
