Great Way to Expand Gear Range
I replaced an 11-32 9-speed cassette with this Microshift 11-42. This is on a recumbent trike with 20" wheels. This lowered my low gear from approximately 21 gear inches to 16 gear inches. The new low is very welcome, particularly on a trike and on very steep grades. The cassette change required the addition of a hanger extension for the rear derailleur and an adjustment to the chain length. The 11-42 shifts well; I am very pleased with its performance. Its 350g weight is very reasonable for such a large cassette.

It is an alloy large cog despite other reviews.
It is an alloy large cog despite other reviews. Checked with a magnet. Fantastic value. This is my second bike I have installed a Microshift Advent group. First was mountain 32 with 11 46 cassette and trail trigger shifter. Second is a gravel conversion with 44 chainring and 11 42 cassette, Advent drop shifters. Just fantastic at twice the price. I'd wager the AdventX 10 speed is even better. If your on a tight budget you can't go wrong with the 9 speed group.

42 works with SRAM X7!!
It works flawless with my SRAM X7 1x9 stuff, with 22 oval up front. Its even a short cage! But the 46 will need a med cage. Installed with an extension hanger, tipped forward a bit works best. Check the pic. It shifts perfect that way and makes the chain hug tight. Just went on a real rough single track woods ride: roots, rocks, downhills, climbs, and never dropped the chain!! I tried 3 cassettes, Sunrace 40 and a genetic 42, both supposed compatible with SRAM, but this one shifted wayyyyyy better. Black looks good too. And had the perfect gearing range on my fav trail. Excellent upgrade.

Not bad. Just doesn't optimize Advent capabilities
Pic is of my generic 11-50t cassette(has red spider in back) with Microshift Advent 9 setup that works great, so I'm kind of regretting the 42t cassettes. I built 2 new 42t full Advent 9 setups, 1 with KMC x9 and 1 with Shimano XT. The XT setup refuses to shift as smoothly as the KMC setup does, and that doesn't seem to shift as well as the generic 11-50 with KMC chain. I only tried that cassette on to see what would happen with the long cage Advent derailleur that supposedly can't handle that size. Microshift says long cage has same max cog as medium so who knows? My rationale is this: why get 11-42t when you can get 11-50t for similar price & weight? BUT THAT MIGHT NOT WORK on all bikes, especially certain full suspension or short derailleur hangers or possibly medium cage Advent 9s. You could still go with 11-46t or 11-48t.

More range for my old XC
Swapped out for 11-32 Shimano, nice change to a 1x9.Had to use a derailleur extender and shorten (weird right?) two links on chain. A bit lighter than the old Shimano cassette, a little chunky on the 1-2 shift (largest cogs), but works well.

Very good cassette
The advent is the best inexpensive clutched rear derailleur set. This cassette is durable and the engravementa on the walls of the rings make shifting easier.

Shimano compatible with derailleur extension
I wasn't sure this was going to work on an older mtn bike Shimano deore LX 9-speed derailleur and shifter, but after installing a derailleurextender(goat link type) the new system works and shifts smooth.

Easy to install, good range of gears
This worked well. First time i have installed a cassette. Good range of gears. I installed this with the Advent Shifter and Derailleur but I'm sure it would work great with any 9 speed drivetrain that could accomidate the 42 teeth.
