Easy to use.
I don't care for digital thermostats. Was happy to find this one to replace my old one.

Dome style thermostat for heat/AC & WORKS without all that crazy programming!! (I could never figure out all of those settings and I replaced that dumb digital one!) I love the Honeywell dial! So easy and it works GREAT!!!!

Great Replacement
I got this to replace an old round mercury-switch version that looked identical on the outside except for color and material. I initially thought that I would just be able to pop this on, but the instructions looked daunting. I read through the instructions 4 times over a week or two before finally deciding that I needed heat on a regular basis. Although some of the instructions could have been clearer I got through it in just about 15-20 minutes. Not all labels on the original thermostat were clear as to which post/wire they were representing, and the blue wire was sitting unattached directly between two posts so I initially mislabeled it... turns out it was supposed to be the unused "B" wire. The new base/wall plate that was to replace the old one attached to the wall was missing the big hole that the wires run through coming out of the wall (but did match the old base plate perfectly otherwise). So that I wouldn't have to move the thermostat over 6" or so on the wall to fit the new base plate (drilling plaster was the last thing I wanted to do), I just left the old base plate and connected the new assembly to it. I've got a two-tone thermostat now, but it doesn't look all that bad, and more importantly... I have heat! I did forget to set the Cycle Rate switch, but turns out that the factory setting is correct for my system. The two control switches (heat/cool, on/auto) have a different mechanism inside than the old thermostat, so the solid "click" is gone, replaced by a softer, mushy, less diffinative muffled click. Comparing the setting on the thermostat to the built-in thermometer, the temp is only about a half degree off. I am keeping the setting lower now... maybe I'm more used to the cold now. UPDATE: A few months down the road and the temps outside called for the blower to bring the cool air up from the basement, and eventually a need for A/C. Neither worked, and my heart sank. Turns out that the unused "B" wire - in my case anyway - was what was needed for both the blower alone and the A/C with blower (the cool side). Since I still had the original thermostat I carefully looked at how the switches on the cool side worked then pulled the new thermostat apart (after turning off the power at the breakers), and hooked up the "B" wire. Now it's done.

Great basic thermostat - owner's/installation manual virtually useless.
Replaced an old/original Honeywell 'Round' with this 2 years ago. Recently it started to act erratically, cycling on and off at frequent intervals much shorter than normal. There are no instructions on how to disassemble and - even though I noticed when installing it - nothing about replacing the battery. It takes a #2450 'button' battery and it turns out the erratic behavior was probably the result of the 'anticipator' not getting proper voltage. Replacing the battery was not a simple, straight-forward process so if you are uncomfortable opening up things, do a search and you will find several videos for guidance. The original 'Round' didn't require a battery since it drew the small amount of current needed from the HVAC unit. With a new battery - everything's working fine now.

Honeywell Home CT87N1001/E1 poorly redesigned former workhorse
Skip to the bottom to read about the problemThis redesign was completely unnecessary and is so inherently flawed that, in the old days, In an American factory, the first inspection of the first unit would have been dismissed as defective and several heads would have rolled for letting it get that far. And in a union shop, union guys would have been enraged and probably refused to make them in the first place which is why many American companies are PROUD to pay their people the big bucks. That's how bad these are. It's not merely a "flawed" design. It's an inherently *defective* design.Purchased used, from Amazon Warehouse. I noticed, right out of the plastic bag, that the top cover wasn't seated properly. The reason is a defective redesign of what was once the most reliable piece of equipment. Whether the damage was caused by someone trying to install it or in the factory on assembly, I have no idea.I'm going to fix and "frankenstein" mine because I'm a tinkerer but, as it was designed, there's a pretty good chance installation will bugger up the *required* electronic connection when putting the cover on so, if you just like the looks and have to have it and want to use it anyway, get 3 but don't get a "3 pack" because if there's only one good one, they may not let you send the defective ones back. Chances are, a 3 pack will contain at least one survivor but if you only need one - what then? To refund, you'd have to send back the "3 pack" you purchased. It's actually a very clever - though corrupt - way to get rid of a whole bunch of stock of an extremely bad design. One must also consider that if one ever has to remove the cover after installation, you have that whole problem of getting it back on without rendering it useless. The problem: Taking the cover off opens a cheap and delicate 6 pin electronic connector that must then be reconnected - blindly - when one replaces the cover and if it doesn't go on perfectly straight the first time, seating the cover will bend whatever pins get caught outside their holes. It also appears that in trying to force the cover to seat properly and catch the latch, the plastic of the female side of the connector on mine was damaged and a small piece of that plastic is lodged down inside it blocking the hole of the pin I straightened. And it is an electronic connection so we're talking about very tiny pins and very tiny holes. If you opened 10 brand new pieces, I'd bet that at least 3 of them will have bent pins and if you reassembled them and opened them again, I'd bet the number of bent pins would double.Buy at your own risk. If you're like me and don't read all of the bad reviews until you discover what you were sent doesn't work, you'll be left with the dilemma of either eating the money you spent or sending it back with the very real possibility that it will simply be shipped to someone else, compounding the problem of landfills that are quickly filling up with cheap, defective products.
