Q: How often would you need to fill this up for 3 chickens?

We fill up about once a week for four chickens.

Q: Help! My chickens are not finding the food. They are almost 1 month old. I keep having to put the food out of the feeder.?

I have some 5 year old hens and some 2 year old hens in addition to the new ones I have that are now about 4 months old. I got these feeders a couple months ago and the young ones began using them right away. The older ones took several weeks before they began using them (I was still using an open feeder in the coop so they weren’t going hungry). I’d decided I was going to try placing some special food/treats on the lip of the feeder with more inside if I needed to entice them to use the feeders. Since they began using them immediately I never had to resort to the treat method so I don’t know if it would work or not. My chickens are very curious and always seem to be pecking at everything they can get their heads into. It seems like it’s what most chickens do (have had chickens nearly 20 years) so probably yours will eventually use the feeders. These are great feeders - easy to keep clean and one fill up will last a couple days.

Q: Is there a way to plug the feeder holes at night to deter rats?

I wouldn't think so, but if you just hang the units with the S-hooks, it would be easy enough to remove the feeder at night and put it back out in the morning.
