Hobby Products International 15107 Nitro Star T3.0 Engine with Pullstart

I have been in R/C for nearly 20 years. I started with the Traxxas Hawk and now own 10 nitro vehicles from various manufacturers. With the exception of O.S. engines, the HPI Nitro Star series is pretty good. They break-in well and run just as good. I own 2 of them, including this one. I followed the break-in instructions, but used few of my own tweaks based on experience. The engine gave me all the power I needed for my HPI RS4 Super Nitro and then some. It has been a great motor with nearly 3/4 of a gallon of fuel run through it. I highly recommend this motor to anyone who needs ease of use and plenty of power over a stock .12 and .15 motors. The factory settings were almost perfect for the NYC area. I did not have to adjust the motor that much.

(Two very important topics below)So, the nitro engine market is not what it used to be 20 years ago. Finding engines (quality engines) for a good/fair price is getting harder these days. I’m hoping things change for the better as the industry realizes that nitro products are still great and customers still want/need them.This engine was a direct fit for my next/latest vintage HPI RS4 build (comparable with org RS4 , 2, racer, racer 2, Super, MT2, etc). You may not even need motor mounts as this engine will allow both a direct bolt on and/or aux mount options. This is a big plus in my opinion.Two items to address for potential buyer to be aware of:1) I contacted customer service about a small cut/hole in the rotary carb (visible when in the closed position). Long story short is that the customer service Rep sent information that this is most likely a cut out/machined groove for the “cam/rotation” portion of the carb barrel. They mentioned that it should not effect the carb in a negative way and they would help to correct any issue I may have , just in case. So I decided to continue the build with the engine. Everything has been fine so far.2) This engine claims to have 2.2 HP...... well I’m not so sure about that. I have O.S. 15 CV- RX Max engine (1.2 HP) on another RS4 (cars are almost exactly the same minus the engine) and I am getting pretty much the same speeds out of the two cars (HPI engine car weighs a little more. Engine does weigh more). I do plan to update this review with acceleration, Gforce and speed curves of both cars/engines to see if there are any differences (using a FlySky GGNS system).So the 4 star review (instead of a 5) is due to the visible potential defect in the carb and the HP claim most likely not being accurate. That being said the engine is great and would buy again.As mentioned prior, quality engines are harder to come buy and prices for quality engines are getting high/extreme. A comparable OS engine would be more than double the cost so, I’m vary happy with this engine.Quality and value for the money is high on this one. I hope the vendor continue to keep this engine available at a fair price for a long time.Hope all this helps

This engine is probably the easiest drop in option if your looking for a new/replacement engine for any of the HPI Nitro RS4 line ( Nitro RS41,2,& 3, Super Nitro RS4, Nitro MT 1&2, Nitro Rush). It’s has built in motor mounts that allow you to mount it directly to the chassis. Also excepts other mounts for non-Hpi car as well. The is a great upgrade for the HPI 15FE and T15 engines.

I put it on my Hpi Super Nitro rs4 and and it ran great. It had more power than i would ever need. Now i need to get new tires , i cant launch it at full throttle or it will spin out. I say it would be a great up grade for any one.

Perfect for my RC car

I bought this engine for my HPI Nitro RS4 Evo3 as a replacement. I love it the power is insane and it revs up so quickly. The problem that I am having now is keeping my tires intact LOL.

The engine has good performance, but the carb is limited to tuning. Mixture screws need very little adjustment, which is good for beginners. Carb lever is a little flimsy so be careful.
