Drill Guide Dowel Kit Jig with 6 Bushings 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16”, 3/8”, 7/16" and 1/2”

I bought this for one purpose - to drill perfectly perpendicular holes in a wooden storage cabinet top to reinforce the corners with dowels. The large base gave me good stability, and the positioning guides on the base made it easy to place the holder accurately. The inserts are well made with very smooth surfaces and no burrs. I was able to position and drill with ease. I highly recommend this for anyone needing clean, well-placed perpendicular holes. If I would want anything else, it would be a custome storage case. The box an foal work well enough, but as good as these are, I would like to see them better protected.

Good product. My only complaint is the the plastic base is a bit flimsy for the nature of the work. It's too easy to fracture when trying to pull the pins from the holes after drilling dowel slots. Other than that it works great if you know how to use a jig.

I bought this without too much thought, having used drill custom guides for a recent project. But this was a life saver yesterday. I was faced with the seemingly simple task of enlarging two holes in an aluminum door jamb while maintaining C-C within a VERY tight tolerance, on a number of doors. My pilot holes matched the smallest bushing (just dumb luck there) so I positioned the plastic holder with a drill as a guide pin. I was able to walk up through larger bushings and never lost the location. That sounds simple and maybe on a drill press you can safely enlarge a drilled hole, but horizontally, on site? I can't ruin a $1000 door trusting my luck.Per the negative comments, The tolerances of the bushings are a little loose if you are familiar with industrial bushings. And the plastic holder is slippery and must be clamped well. I wouldn't expect it to maintain perfect perpendicularity through a deep hole with confidence. But way better than nothing, and really stepped up for what i needed.

I just bouht this set again to replace stolen one.So simple, especially if you're doweling to the face of a wide board or sheet material. On edge, the pins self center.Excellent, simple tool.

Overall the concept for this is simple and with some patience and practice it can basically do what you need. Unfortunately, it can be very finnicky to get right and really requires clamping to get it right which can be difficult with the limited clamping options. Holding by hand is really not an option as it is very difficult to keep it in place.Overall, I think it is well designed for what it is... but ultimately I don't know that I will be using it that much based on the chance for inaccuracy if it shifts.

There are quite a few pitfalls on the way to that perfectly drilled hole. The guide marks on the plastic work well if you are drilling a few inches from the edge of a piece, but drilling near the edge can be challenging. There are V-shaped grooves for drilling into edges or dowels, but they also distort your marks, making it difficult to line up. It is essential to clamp the guide or it will wander around as you drill (especially in wood where the bit will try to follow the grain). When making deeper holes, you need to stop periodically and clear the waste from the guide or it will build up under the bushing and force it out of the guide ruining the alignment. I also saw some metal shavings the first couple of times I used it, and I am concerned about whether the bushings will remain accurate with repeated use.Once I got past those pitfalls, I was able to drill holes with ~1.2 degree accuracy (~1/16" off through 3" of soft wood). It's just a bit too fidgety to give it more than 3 stars.

I was a little skeptical buying this as the plastic looked like something I would probably break. I used it the other weekend to install a floating mantle and holy cow it was a godsend!! It is cleverly designed with outlets for sawdust and keeping it in place was easy because of the little pegs on the bottom. It worked like a charm and I am no longer afraid that I would break it.

After putting up an entire set of cabinets, upper and lower, I needed to drill for handles. Sure, you can just hold the drill and drill the hole, but if it's not perpendicular you will have issues. Could just take the doors off and set them under my drill press, yeah, no, that's a lot of doors, and drawer fronts. Then I found this, at first it's a little odd, but once you figure it out and use a couple of heavy duty spring clamps you can knock the holes out quickly and they will be perpendicular. Add a jig to mark the hole locations and the project will be perfect, well, unless you don't use the tools correctly, then it's on you, don't blame the tools.
