How close the door remains to the wall when its open? Can insects and pests enter through the sides when closed?
I have a 4 inch space from my ceiling to the top of the doorway. What's the measurement from the top of the hanger to the bottom of the wheel?
Can you mount the rail directly to the drywall / studs? Or do you have to install a header board first?
what is the diameter of the wheel itself? I'm looking for something small, with a wheel maybe 1'' to 1.5'' in diameter to fit a smaller mounting space

Very Good System At A Fraction Of The Cost

The Barn Door system is a great value for the Price. This was about 3x more expensive at the big box hardware store. The product was packaged very well with all parts individually wrapped and secure in the box. Most of the accessories were placed in individual boxes to prevent damage during transport. The hardware appears to be solid. The bolts and nuts seem to be enamel painted black and have a slightly different texture tha the rails and J-hook. You really have to look hard to see the difference. The black enamel looks like it matches common black enamels like model paint or nail polish. The rail comes in 2-peices and when assembled, causes a very slight noise when the door passes. For my purposes, I needed about a 10-foot rail to hang two doors and found purchasing 2-systems to be the best option. I first found the studs, then dry fitted the system studs to determine the best way to hand it. I had to drill one additional hole to line up with a misplaced stud. I recommend using a drill press. The holes all 16inches apart. I had to cut the second system rail to fit the wall, giving me my extra length. I used a hacksaw and the cut took several minutes but is clean. The second rail fits nice with about a 1/16th inch gap. Definitely predrill your holes. Make sure the rail is tight to the wall before you hang the doors. I didn't and the rail flexed. Thankfully I checked my work and found the mistake. The door hardware was a little tricky. The instructions suggest using a 3/8th drill bit, but I found the hole very tight. A rubber mallet helped drive the bolts in. I improvised with the placement of the door hardware because the doors are not barn doors but reclaimed doors purchased from the ReStore. The doors hang well on the rail, but were a little finicky getting lined up. The stop that prevents the door from jumping the track seemed to get more in the way than it should. It took some moving the door back and forth to get it on the tracks. The doors fit about half an inch from the wall. This is not a weather tight door, definitely decorative.Slide the stops onto the rail. If you need a stop further than the first anchor bolt, you may have to unbolt the rail from the wall, put on the stop, then rebolt the rail. This is definitely a "plan ahead "moment.I included two pictures of the finished product. The doors line up well but have a slight gap. I figure that is user error.

Good quality, sturdy and so far works great

Right out of the box we could tell this was a high quality kit. Very heavy, nice texture and seemed well made. We were a hair concerned after reading reviews about the two halves of the rail creating a little "bump" where they come together, but this one was actually pretty flush, so we were happy about that. At first glance the instructions seemed confusing and not very descriptive, but once we got going it wasn't too bad. Our door is 4x8 and very heavy maple plywood with MDF strips on the front. This seems to be holding it up no problem, it slides nice (one wheel is a little noisy, but not bad considering the weight of the door), and it looks great. It comes with adjustable stoppers you slide on the ends of the rail to control how far the door goes in both directions. These are not strong enough to stay in place if you push the door hard, but as long as you open close gently, no problem. If you have kids, it could pose a problem potentially, but our kids are grown so can't say for sure. I'd say it took us 2-3 hours in total to get the door hung. The hardest part was getting all the holes perfectly level, so the door wouldn't slide one way or the other. Luckily we put a header above our opening when we built so finding studs wasn't an issue. Overall we are really happy with the purchase and it was far less expensive than the big box home stores. I would recommend. (P.S. there are some small rubber stoppers that we did not use and actually have no idea why they are included. They are supposed to prevent rubbing, but that was not an issue with our install and we followed instructions pretty closely).

Pretty impressed if you're handy.

I scoured the internet learning about barn doors and all the hardware. For the price and most of the reviews I had to try this kit. All in all it worked perfectly. The roller hardware was good quality and the coating they use is pretty durable. Honestly the rollers roll too easy. I snugged down the center bolt as far as it would go but it didn't ping the bearing as I had hoped. I'll probably find a washer to put in between the roller bracket and roller and hopefully create some resistance if it becomes a problem. The whole process is pretty self explanatory so if you're handy it'll make sense. There are no instructions and you will have to drill holes in the flat bar! The odds of hitting a stud with every hole im sure is pretty low so I would plan on drilling. If I do this again I will happily buy this kit but throw away the 2 piece flat bar and buy a solid piece. The 2 pieces are machined at an angle where they come together so it's really a pretty tight fit but it would be nice to level one 6' piece as opposed to 2 separate bars. I would check over and over that the bar is level before drilling any holes for the lag bolts. As I said, the door rolls SO easily that if it's not perfectly level I guarantee the door will open or close on its own! I mounted right to the drywall with no backer board. That would've pushed my door way too far away from the trim. Since this is the hallway bath, I needed it as close as possible for maximum privacy...and odors :). With the low tolerance behind the door, I wish the kit came with carriage bolts for hanging the door to the roller bracket instead of standard bolts. This would minimize the dragging on the trim behind the door as it slides. I was tired of going to the parts store otherwise I would've bought some carriage bolts (still might). I ended up not using the washers on those bolts, and speaking of washers the center hole on the ones that come with the kit are too big. I'd recommend buying smaller ones if you're a perfectionist and want your washer centered on the bolts. Lastly the door guide for the bottom of the door feels super weak and is just plastic. I was not looking forward to notching the bottom of my door with a skilsaw for the guide channel. I looked for an external guide or wheel but couldn't find anything cool so I notched the door. The plastic guide is more than sufficient and it looks pretty clean not having something sticking out at the bottom of the door.
