Pleasant Hearth - 1/2" Solid Steel Fireplace Grates With Ember Retainer, Black, 24-Inch

Great design; having the screen to keep the embers close to the logs greatly improves the burn. An improvement over the last such grate I owned is that the screen is now attached to the top of the cross members, so the tack welds are not stressed each time I throw a log on the fire. Another plus is that the product information gives enough dimensional information that I was able to buy the right size to fully fit the width of my firebox, so no more partial logs falling off the ends. The only negative about this product is that the entire production run of this particular size was made with one leg too short. Got one replacement from Amazon and one from the manufacturer, and they were all the same as shown in the photo. Finally, there was nothing left to do but keep the latest replacement product and get used to a wobbly fireplace grate. I will have no further insight into how well this grate works until cold weather returns.

Nice Fireplace Grate! Size represents the widest part of the base, (front legs). The depth is 11" which is the steel log cradle bars. I first ordered the 21" but then got the 24". See the photo. The 21" on the left, 24" on the right. I would definitely get the largest that would fit in your fireplace. The 24" struggles to hold 3 logs securely, especially when you're stoking the fire and moving hot logs around. After a few dozen fires it's holding up well, no sagging across the base. Love having the grate to hold the hot coals up against the logs.Mine came with a slight rocking since the feet weren't perfectly level, maybe 1/2" off. The clearance under the base is 3-1/2" which was more than I liked so I put a metal blade in my grinder and took off about an inch off each leg. That keeps the gas pipe flames closer to the logs and the overall fire lower in my smallish fireplace. Oh, and eliminated the rocking.4 star for the rocking and lack of specific size specifications from the manufacturer. Had to pay shipping to return the first one. Otherwise great product for the price.

So I originally ordered the 3/4" thick 18" version of this hearth without the mesh interior and sadly did not make it home without cracking one cradle arm off. But what I did find was that with the 18" size, the 3/4" bars are extreme over kill. I mean it fit in the hearth but dear Lord did it exaggerate it's size with those larger bars. So this 1/2" version was ordered while shipping the other back. Once the 1/2" came in I knew I'd chosen wisely the second time around. To describe it as a jack stand, you don't need an 8 ton dual locking jack stand to work under your Civic. I mean it'll do the job but wow dragging that 30lbs monster around gets annoying And you can't just jack the one tire up to use it, you have to jack up the whole side of the car cause it's so dang tall! And right tool for the job really comes to mind with the 1/2" compared to the 3/4" Steel Fireplace Hearth in the 18" size. I have had this grate for a week now and have used it every night in my wood burning stove. This is obviously not a long term report, but so far it is holding up excellently. Due to other reviews I thought the wire coal holder would deteriorate quickly as I burn very hot fires for long periods of time. So far it is holding up perfectly and does a great job of burning all of the coals down so I have nothing but ash left in my stove after leaving it burning overnight.The dimensions reflect the widest and longest aspects so it will be sure to fit your stove/ fireplace if you choose the correct size. There is some tapering (primarily the width of rear legs) but this does not majorly impact the overall size/ capacity of the unit.I am only give 4/5 stars so far because I have not used it long enough to test its long term durability, but the 4 could easily turn into a five if it continues to hold up as I expect it to.

I needed this as part of repairs to a broken hearth. It has survived entire winters with long term burning. The paint never cracks or chips. Level and strong enough to hold medium size hardwood logs. 10 out of 10 would recommend

Been replacing these racks for 20+ years, my season for fireplace usage is short a few times a month for about 3 months. usually get multiple years out of them. I've purchased from several manufacturers over the years. Think twice before you invest in this one.

Extremely well made. NOTE: The sizes are the sizes in the FRONT of the holder. They do get narrower toward the back by at least a couple of inches. This is perfect for customers with shaped metal fireplace inserts.

I bought this for a project my wife did at our vacation home. The house has a fireplace that has been blocked off and can no longer be used for fires. She wrapped some wood logs with small LED angel lights, sat them on this rack, and placed it in the fireplace. It wasn't meant to look like fire, it was just meant to give a nice glow and to spruce up an otherwise ugly fireplace. She also painted the inside of the fireplace with a grey concrete paint to help give it a cleaner look. I can't comment on the durability of this item since we aren't really using it for it's intended purpose. It does appear to be well made. Pay attention to the size though, this one seemed a little smaller than what I was expecting. Worked fine for our use, but do check the size when ordering.

I've been looking for a replacement for my small fireplace. This fits perfect! Haven't used it yet to see how it will hold up to the heat but based on the reviews I'm sure it will be fine.

Perfect fit for my acorn fireplace. Holds 3-4 logs at a time. Very happy with my order. Keep in mind if you do not like and try to return itll cost you 25$ CAD for postage. I tried b/c I happened to find it cheaper but decide to keep it.

Was worried it couldn't handle the heat, but has proved me to be wrong.
