Perko0965DP0CHR Chrome-Plated Horizontal-Mount Stern Light - White

I bought this and the two color bow light to replace the cheap knock-offs that I bought a couple of years ago to replace 40+ year old Perko lights on my 1970's sailboat. The build quality of these lights is well worth the extra money. Thick heavy stainless steel caps that are precision machined. Thick lenses. A solid base. Thicker wire. You get the idea. With Perko, Made in the USA still means high quality. I should have bought these the first time around.

Pricey but this is not a common purchase and I wanted to replace existing with a solid, sturdy one. Cons: Not an LED as described and will be replacing the bulb before installing. No screws included. For ~$60 they could have included some dang new screws.... Otherwise it is great and perfect for my 1978 O'Day 30'.

This is a pretty nice lamp for small boats, especially those that originally came with round lamps like this one. The nice feature of this lamp is that it has a thick plastic base which helps keep the light sealed. I would think that for the price however, it would at least have led lights not an old incandescent style bulb. I bought a cheap led to throw in it which looks really nice. Sometimes these can be found at used shops but depending on age they may have cracked viewing windows or corroded housings. These Horizontal Mount Stern Lights are somewhat difficult to find and the Amazon price is pretty good. There are also a bunch of Stainless Steel (not brass like this one) knockoffs that are up on Ebay all the time but I have not tried them.

Best price but still overpriced. I just didn’t trust cheap plastic Chinese knockoffs for this application.

The old Perko light on the stern of my sailboat had become erratic and, tired of messing with it, I ordered the new light. What a great improvement. The old model used the outside of the bulb for ground (source of the erratic behavior) and the new light has corrected that shortcoming. Plus the wires are, unlike some, strong and long enough for easy attachment. The exterior dimensions are exactly the same as the old light so I did not have to drill new holes in the boat (very important to me) and the bulb is the barrel style instead of the older flashlight style. The lens is sealed to the housing, unlike the old one, so should do a better job of keeping water out on those days when we should not have been venturing forth in the waves anyway and be bright enough for any would-be rescuers to find us. I'm very impressed with the redesign and upgrade.

I ordered the 965 type stern light (2nm). I ordered it with the LED bulb shown. The 965 type has a cartridge type bulb, not the plug and twist. The led bulb shown and received will not work with this unit .

Worked great fit in same place as old one. Nice bright light.

What can I say? It works as it should!
