Great for toddlers!
Melissa and doug toys are amongst my favorite brands for kids. The quality of the products always surpasses expectations. To my surprise this particular one taught my 1 year old to recognize numbers and also start repeating it. Go get it for your little ones, trust me you will be amazed how they start learning the numbers.

This is an awesome, educational puzzle
I had to review this puzzle because I was shocked that it only has 3 stars. I bought this puzzle for my then 1 and a half year old daughter for Christmas 2011. She absolutely loves it and still loves it now. It has helped reinforce her numbers. She can count all the way up to 20! Of course, you still have to work with your child on learning their numbers but this defintely is another way for them to be exposed to them. I have had no problems with the numbers. All the numbers sound correctly when she plays with them. I love that the double digit numbers are stuck together so that children can get the visual that they are one number. All in all, a great Melissa & Doug product.Note to people who have had a defective puzzle: Melissa & Doug's customer service is generally excellent. I'm sure if you called them and reported the problem you're having they would replace the puzzle free of charge. I have had small issues with previous Melissa & Doug products & they shipped me replacement parts within the week.

My 2 year old son loves this puzzle. We bought it because he really enjoyed the alphabet version puzzle and this one was a hit too! He enjoys the sound and has learned some of his numbers using this!

My kids love this
This is exactly what I needed. I try to buy educational toys that my daycare kids actually want to play with. I wanted to get a toy that made numbers interesting, and this did the trick. They all love this puzzle, ages 1-4. My 1 year old is obsessed with the numbers 8 and 18 for some reason, and you can tell. They've been in her mouth, and are starting to peel a bit, but the puzzle would be sturdy enough for normal use by older children. It says the number on the board regardless of the piece you're trying to put in, but I like that. It gives them regular exposure to the name of the numbers. They still understand that they have to try another piece if it doesn't fit.The only thing I don't like is that the numbers 6 and 9 look too similar. I'd prefer if they were different colors, because it can be frustrating for little minds if they look like they should fit, but don't. You can see how close they are in the picture. Easy for an adult to differentiate between, but toddlers and preschoolers have a harder time. Still worth it, I think.

Great puzzle
This is a great puzzle to have, along with the ABC one. The pieces are easy to get in and out and the talking feature is great because it helps my daughter identify each number and learn vocab. It entertains her for a good chunk of time. The voice can become annoying but that is true for every talking toy.

Pretty good, was expecting better quality.
We own several fantastic Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles in this house, and this is a fine addition for our 3yo daughter. She is engaged by it, and has gotten much use of it since Santa dropped it off.The puzzle has all 26 letters laid out perfectly. Brightly colored, with pretty display underneath each letter that corresponds. Watermelons for W, zippers for Z. It's all very nice, and what we've come to expect from a M and D product. When you remove a piece nothing happens, but when you replace the piece you cover the photosensitive element embedded in each letters slot activating the recorded response for each letter. That leads me to my small gripe. The voice that comes from the speaker in the front of the puzzle has a rather tinny and garbled sound. Also, unlike simpler wooden puzzles this has a middle section made from composite wood to hold the electronics for the "talking" portion. Ours appears to be slightly warped. No problem really, but I'm wondering how humidity might worsen the situation over time. For what it's worth, Santa also brought my daughter the Numbers puzzle and we've encountered the same "problems."

Awesome
My son is a very visual learner (2yrs old) so we started off with the Melissa and Doug Alphabet Sound Puzzle and within a couple of weeks he knew his Alphabet by heart. He points out letters to us everywhere we go now. Since the alphabet puzzle worked so well we decided to get the number puzzle. The numbers are a little more tricky for him to pick up but pretty much it still had to same effect. He was able to tell us most of the numbers himself within the first couple of weeks. The visual and sound learning was perfect for him. We love to set on the floor and do the puzzles over and over again and he enjoys knowing what each number is and where it goes. We are very happy with these products and will continue to purchase Melissa and Doug products in the future.
