Red Lantern 27" Tall Hokkaido End Table Shoji Lamp, Rosewood

The Oriental 27" End Table arrived earlier than expected and was easy to put together; just tighten the light fixture part and attach it to the brace that holds the bulb inside the end table. It took less than 10 minutes to complete. However the quality of the end table is not good.As you can see in the photos, there are stratches and other imperfections on the tabletop where they tried to cover up by painting over them.Reading a previous review, a customer mentioned the same problem as with my item - the tabletop part. This is either a production issue or I received the exact item the customer had (not sure if the other customer returned their item). Either way, this is not good.I called Amazon's customer service and they were very understanding. They have given me options on the best way to handle this, so I will decide which one to take.All in all, I am very disappointed.

Overall great lighting - Easy to setup. NOTE: must be careful when handling, as the internal shades are made from paper - as they would be in Asian decor - not glass or plexiglass, so will tear if handled roughly when unfolding the stand..

The tables are beautiful and what I wanted, but had to return them because of Quality Control problems with the manufacturer. One table had a torn screen and both table tops I ordered were damaged. One had a huge scratch across a corner that was drawn over with a black sharpie and bumpy filled drill holes that looked like it had been cut for something that mounts on a wall. I wouldn't have cared if it was on the bottom of the table, but it was in plain sight. The other top looked like it wasn't fully sanded or they put something on top of it and pulled it off before it was dry.I am leaving 3 stars, because I don't think it had anything to do with Oriental Furniture itself, but more with the manufacturer in the Philippines. Packing was good and everything was secure. I looked up Oriental Furniture reviews and overall they seem to be courteous and respond to their customers issues. I will probably buy them again, but waiting some time for a different production run and hopefully Oriental can resolve the shoddy workmanship with finishing and painting overseas.

Bought these for use as end tables in a small guest room to avoid using large lamps. The red color is great, assembly went well, and the lamps are sturdy. We linked the lamps to a Lutron dimmer switch to create ambiance-no issues with the dimmer. We are using soft white bulbs for a warmer look-LED bulbs were super bright and just didn’t look right. No matter what bulb you use, you can see it through the paper, but it has not bothered any of our guests. It’s been almost a year since purchase and have received many compliments from friends and family. Glad we bought them!

Japanese Lantern is quite large. I would suggest a mock-up first before ordering, i.e. take dimensions of unit and place something of similar size in desired space to get a feel for the large size. Lantern is large enough to act as a stand alone night stand. Bedrooms are usually limited in space, so think hard if a large lamp is right for your space. I returned my black lantern because we meant to order the honey color. My girlfriend loves it, but I believe it's too big for her bedroom. I'm reluctant to reorder. She believes that such a large Japanese Lantern is a rare find, but Japanese Lanterns need to be small & elegant, especially in the bedroom IMHO.

For the price, these are a great deal! Very easy to put together. We love the soft lighting that they give to our bedroom and the light is very unobtrusive if one has to turn a light on when the other is sleeping. We also like the height of these particular nightstands, since our bed has the taller boxspring and mattress. Only disappointments (but, we were looking for inexpensive) is that the wood is not really an "oak" look (there isn't any woodgrain) and the top isn't all that big -- you can only fit a small clock radio and, say, a tissue box, but all-in-all, we're happy with our purchase (because we were looking for inexpensive nightstands).

In the “Oriental Wing” of my apartment—a 10’ by 6’ nook—I needed an end table for a large doll case containing my now almost-antique Thai temple dancer. I already have shoji-inspired torchiers and table lamps from Adesso and screens I use as lower window shades from Oriental Furniture. When I saw this piece I ordered it immediately. It arrived on the day of a party. I opened the box, unfolded it, put in a bulb, and had it set-up in minutes. PS: It also doubles as a unique “night light” when guests stay over.

I bought two of these for my Japanese inspired bedroom. They fit the decor and look beautiful. We ended up trying about five different lightbulbs in them before settling on a soft light low wattage bulb. The lighting in the room is very nice. You can see the lightbulb through the paper but it's not too distracting. The rosewood color was more reddish than I expected from the pictures. Overall I'm very satisfied.
