Nice photos but not much practical ideas for home
I found the first few chapters interesting but by the time I got to bathrooms, I found I stopped reading and mostly just looked at the photos. It began to read more like a hotel review as opposed to ideas that could be used at home. I think most of the bathroom ideas are impractical for a home, even thought they are pretty. If I was traveling and looking for a top rate hotel, this would provide an excellent guide, but not very many take aways for the home.

Basically a picture book - more like a magazine - might be good for a few ideas
This is a beautiful book that shows how some very nice hotels are decorated, starting with bedrooms and baths, but also showing dining areas, library areas, and outdoor areas. The hotels in the book certainly go very well beyond your standard bed/bath/(maybe) kitchenette in most hotels, and represent hotel spaces that include pretty full kitchens and good sized living areas. The book is a good one that clearly what some very well decorated hotels look like (here and abroad), but for me, this book really is more a special edition of Architectural Digest - Beautiful to look at but not really giving too much information on how to design/decorate a living space.Reading this book is fun and might give you some ideas for your decorating. I don't think most of us are going to see it as a ongoing source ideas to decorate the homes we live in. For me, a better book would been more practical and shown how hotels deal with making best use of space they have (and maybe have more text on what common approaches might be) and focus less on what really is a look at very high-end hotel rooms/suites.Three stars.

An idea book, works well for big and small and light and dark spaces.
This book is a great idea generator for designing a unique space within your home. Bliss has included boutique hotel bedrooms, bathrooms and other spaces from all over the world, especially the far East since she has lived there for some time. What I liked is that the spaces are varied, diverse and all sizes. There are rooms here that are just big enough to fit a queen size bed with not much else and some rooms that are really large. So no matter what kind of space one is looking to furnish and create, there is an idea in this book that could work. The other thing I really liked is the variety of light and dark colors and also light and dark spaces. Some books feature only lighter colors, and very open spaces with clean furniture and hardly any personal objects and seem almost industrial in design. The reality is that few of us have those picture book homes and life can be messy. Although the pictures are of boutique hotels there can be a lot of inspiration from this book for every day life. Not everything matches in the rooms she features, there are special pieces and what seem to be favorite objects. The pictures also make good use of darker spaces with bold colors.Bliss provides practical takeaways about how to take some elements from these spaces and then dress up our own home based on our aesthetic and of course, our budget. Some of these looks gave me ideas to go explore the flea markets, antique stores and garage sales to find some of these pieces or use some ideas to dress up an old dressing table or reupholster some chairs. There are also some interviews from top designers about the elements they love from their favorite hotels around the globe.Overall, it's a nice book for ideas and inspiration to take a room and make it unique and give it more personality with our personal aesthetic.

More than Eye Candy
Years ago, our family adopted a phrase I'd read here on Amazon: Live like you're on vacation. We used it as motivation to snap smartphone photos of everything from hotel lobbies to beautiful landscapes and to comb the Internet for shots of places that look inviting. With this library in hand, we talked about colors and shapes and layouts that we could use with our own midcentury house to make it be more soothing and welcoming not only for us but for friends and family. What Sara Bliss has done with Hotel Chic at Home is to give you almost 300 pages' worth of images collected internationally and curated to be a "dream book" for your coffee table ... or a companion to keep you company as you translate intangibles into specific workable ideas you can experiment with. For example, while most of us wouldn't want -- or have access to -- a crystal chandelier to hang in the bathroom, we might well wish for an oversize tub. When we gutted our bathroom, for example, I dreamed of a furo (deep tub for soaking). One of the challenges we ran into was trying to figure out how to make something like that "belong" and not look sorely out of place. The process would have been a lot simpler with this book along for the ride; as Bliss notes, and chooses photos to illustrate, you can create harmony by balancing and offsetting weights and textures. Thus in the photo of the chandelier mentioned earlier, it harmonizes with a soaking tub and ceiling-to-floor drapery. (Our solution, which involved a streamlined run of counter and cabinets and oversize tile, was more practical, structural, and affordable, but it followed similar principles. We frankly stumbled upon this solution based on wanting more storage space. A reference like this would have set our minds at ease and spared us second-guessing ourselves while we proceeded with the work.)Contents are grouped by type and space: bedrooms; dining rooms and kitchens; living spaces; baths; children's bedrooms; libraries and dens; outdoor spaces; and details (entry areas, lighting, materials that make for dramatic walls and floors). Thorough captions throughout make it easy to seek out additional resources such as hotel-property websites so you can view additional photographs. I do wish that the index included more information about the soft goods in the photographs that are available to consumers, such as the makers of pillows, lights, sofas and dish ware.
