Great mouthpiece

This thing nice! Bright for sure. Great control, though that's up to the player too. Looks beautiful.Reed seats nicely on it...flat table. I haven't measured it, but it looks like a 7 opening. I consider myself lucky to have gotten it for half price; used, but still came in really good shape. Shame on you, Amazon, for shipping it without in foam around it! It was loose in the little, original box, all three pieces: ligature, cover, and mp banging together. however, a couple of scratches, not major damage. Still a great deal used.I don't like the cover, it's not designed correctly, but i see what they were trying to do. i'm afraid the cover might damage the reed, however that's not enough for me to knock one star off.

Great sound, High quality

Actually, this is a GREAT mouthpiece, especially when you compare it to the big name pieces costing $500.00 or so.. It is beautifully finished, and the slide ligature works great, even though this type of lig is not my cup of tea. I have a love affair with many of the chinese tenor mouthpieces, especially the Yibuy ones, of which I own several #7's and #9s, in the 2 styles they offer. I bought this Paititi, because Sirvalorsax on Youtube had reported that it was the easiest altissimo piece he had ever played on. Surprisingly, I did not find this to be true at all, and in fact I could not even hit high A without the thing closing up, whereas on the Yibuy pieces I can hit any altissimo note I want, and that is true for both the #7s and the #9s!! However, the sound of the Paititi was nothing short of phenomenal, as long as the sound you are going for is the modern, edgy, crying type of sound, ala Kirk Whalum or Mark Rivera. You won't sound like Dexter Gordon on this thing.. If it could hit the altissimo notes, I would have given it 5 stars easily, even though it is 2x the price of the Yibuy. I think it would be great for beginners who have several months under their belt, and are wanting to go to a modern contemporary type sound. I do truly LOVE the sound of this thing- it is husky and full, rich and edgy, without being shrill. I can play soft or loud on it, but it does not, (and cannot?) ever sound mellow. Also be aware that it is NOT a traditional Link #7 opening. I would guess it to be maybe a #5 or #6 at most. I have a Berg Larsen 90, which is their smallest opening, and the Paititi plays (feels) almost identical, except that the Berg will also hit any altissimo note I want it to.. Still the Paititi has a very satisfying sound, and you just want to keep playing on it.

Very pleased with quality/price

Pros:Surprised at how resonant it is. This is a decent mouthpiece for the price it has.It is both loud and rich in sound at the same time.Attunement is better than expected once you get it where it should be on the neck. The ligature takes a bit getting used to, but works as intended. Can use some W40D to help it slide better.Cons:Bit on the sharp side. Took a bit of readjusting the mouthpiece to get it in tune, but once its tuned it stays in tune.

Ups and downs.

It's a $50 mouthpiece. My expectations weren't overtly high to begin with. However, I was relatively disappointed when the mouthpiece didn't even fit on the neck of my soprano (it was way too big, and slid all the way past the bottom of the cork). I noticed that clarinet reeds seemed to fit better with the width of the mouthpiece than soprano reeds did as well.My solution was lining the inside of the mouthpiece with a rubber material to keep it airtight and create a seal. A bit annoying to have to do every time but it worked. The sound was better than I expected after this whole process and I actually liked it, it helped me get a good lead tone. I would recommend you get it if you're more experienced however, as I needed to be really consistent with and conscious of my embouchure to prevent tone and pitch from fluctuating. Plus the rubber piece I put in would occasionally fall out.Overall, the sound impressed me for $50, but the practicality was pretty underwhelming seeing that I had to alter it to use it. Next time I will probably be a little less cheap haha.

No mouth opening Specifications

There are no specifications (aperture size) I've purchased 2 already. I need the #5 cause #6 was no good for me.I own a tenor #7 that I love. I would like to trade if I could and give the alto another chance.

Incredible Mouthpiece!

I am a saxophonist who has played in a professional big band for years, still playing in various jazz combos and this mouthpiece immediately made a HUGE difference in my sound. I am not a gearhead, I have played Meyer 7 rubber mouthpieces for nearly 30 years, including on my soprano. I liked the sound, it was warm but always felt a bit muted. This Paititi mouthpiece immediately made my tone more focused, and while it is certainly brighter it has not lost the warmth I prefer as a jazz player. This is actually my first metal mouthpiece, and right out of the box it played great. My horn is an old Conn (1923 vintage) and my repairman (Steve Collins of Collins Hornworks) did a great job on the overhaul. I was having intonation problems due to me, not the horn. Playing the Paititi immediately solved these intonation problems. I admit I haven't tried many different mouthpieces on my soprano, but this one was such a pleasant surprise! Thanks Paititi, and thanks to several other positive reviews, my wife and son picked this one out for my Christmas gift. You won't be disappointed!
