Origami Zoo: An Amazing Collection of Folded Paper Animals

For me, more like Origami Roadkill
I didn't expect to be able to make most of these amazing Origami animals, but I didn't expect to reach my limit after only the first two. Traditional models like the crane, frog, lily, and rabbit had been a snap to learn from the vague directions that come with origami paper. The introduction of Origami Zoo seems to expect that some of us will be beginners, so I proceeded with confidence. The animals are presented in order of difficulty, and I took them in order. Dolphin and penguin went well. Swan's body was fine, but how to make a neck that doesn't look strangled and a head that's not crushed? Many swans bit the dust without even a last song. I moved on to the fish. After several attempts, I got a fish that looked as if it had been in a fight with a barracuda. And the tail--I never have figured it out. The directions are mostly good, but when they're not they are totally frustrating. Some things can be figured out by examining the diagrams and the photos very carefully and experimenting with your paper model. But that fish tail! I quit. I've got other things to do.It's almost worth keeping the book as a gallery of spectacular origami creatures, like the horsefly, which is splendid. But I hope to find a more advanced origami artist to pass this book along to.

Misleading for beginners
The description of this book (including on the back of the book itself) says it "will both inspire the beginner and challenge the most accomplished folder." This is extremely misleading to me, as I found this to be strictly for advanced origami hobbyists and not at all for beginners like me.I thought I'd learn some origami for fun and assumed this collection would have several levels to build my skill from beginner to at least intermediate. The first thing I attempted was the penguin, which I believe was one of the first animals presented in the book. I got about 3/4 of the way through and threw it in the trash in frustration. Flipping through the book, I found no good place to start, as they all looked intimidatingly difficult.I hate to give this a low review because the animals it has actually mostly look pretty amazing, and I'm sure it's a great resource for people who have been folding for a while. So for that I'm giving it an extra star, but I feel a bit ripped off buying something that not only didn't deliver on their promise to inspire the beginner, but did the opposite in making me feel like I don't actually want to learn origami after all.

Some are easy, some are so advanced you need wizardry to complete them.
Just so you know, several of these are literally impossible. The technique they use it to "wet it and shape it" so it's not Origami per say, as in you're not folding it. Much of it is "wet and shape". If you use extremely large paper to start off with, you should be ok.

Lobser / Crap look cool!
It does have some real Nice designs however half of the book's diagrams do not show front and back colors to assist with correct folds. Although it could have had better diagrams created all the projects in the book are fun to do.Difficulty: MediumThe skill level for this is beginner to average level folds.I was contacted and told this was published pre digital diagram age and color side not specified means to use same color on both sides.

Great for origami enthusiasts
I always remeber checking this book out at my high school's library and I couldn't believe my luck when I found it again on Amazon. It's been great doing ones I already mastered and even more fun challanging myself with folds I struggled with in the past.

Splendid, Scintillating, A must for origami fan.
This book contains dozens of origami animals, ranging from med to highly-complex. At first we may doubt this is just another routine four-leg animals. However, two authors give us models unexpectedly various, and most of the figurations are wonderful. We have some of the most beauitful modeling here: A crab, a eagle in full-spread wing(with the feathers!), A dog in the doghouse(single paper), A very vivid rabbit. And the folding steps are full of wonder. The only disadvantage in this book is that for a new folder the diagrams are very neat and succinct, usually Several steps combined in one diagram. But this deserves since this book contains so many models and they are arranged by level of difficulty. This is a must for any origami fan.

Amazing selection of different animals and difficulties
Amazing selection of different animals and difficulties.Still a few models that I am struggling on, usually when required to wrap a fold (rabbit, reindeer)I've folded most models a few times now and would like to highlight some of my favorites:Fox, Lion, Mammoth, Roadrunner, Skunk, and Mouse

I first bought this book decades ago, and was one of the reasons I got into origami in the first place. I bought this as a replacement for my library (I have several books on origami). One hint: With a little creativity, the Lion model (pictured on the cover in the lower right), can double as a Bull (mostly just make horns instead of ears when you fold it).
