Imperial 4" Premium Intake Cap with Built-in Pest Guard Screen, Brown, PA-4B

I looked online for quite a bit before finding this little gem. Just perfect for what I needed (a fresh air inlet vent, with low-profile face and smallest-possible footprint on the side of the house). I will mount this through/to a 1x8 trim board at the bottom of my horizontal siding, and the trim board's actual dimensions are 7.25" across, with 1/4" of that taken up by an aluminum drip edge flashing. So this unit will fit perfectly, and the white will match the PVC trim board's white as well, making it low-visibility. The critter-screen is a nice feature (heavy duty wire screen), and I will be adding a finer mesh to keep smaller flying insects from making a home inside the 4" vent tube. No mounting hardware came with my unit (requires 4 small screws, one at each corner) so I'll pick up some stainless steel hardware to mount it. The bee's/wasps may try to build a nest inside the louvers, but I'm used to that, and there's little one can do about it other than cleaning them out occasionally. Very pleased with the unit, and how it looks. This was exactly what I was searching for, and seems rugged enough to stand up to the weather. Time will tell if it yellows, warps, or becomes brittle. At this price, I'll just buy another when the time comes.

So glad I took back the vent cover from Home depot and purchased this. Most competing products have a one-way flow feature that blocks airflow from outside to inside. But what if you want inward airflow such as for combustion air for a fireplace? This one allows for both directions. Beyond that, what made this work is that the it fit perfectly and tightly INSIDE the 4 inch metal vent through the brick wall in my house. Other vent covers are designed for installation while the home is under construction.Those fit around the outside of the vent. The round cylindrical surface which fit inside the vent was so tight I couldn't quite push it in by hand. But I found that the louvered cover could be snapped out and snapped back in. This was helpful because I was able to remove the louvers and gently strike the flat surface underneath with a mallet and a flat piece of wood. This seated the vent cover snugly against the brick wall and it is so tight, the forces of nature won't be able to pull it loose. I was then able to snap the louvered front back in.

I added two of these to a shed opposite a solar powered gable fan to improve airflow in addition to the standard screen vents I had installed previously. They offer great airflow, and the included screen will keep out larger insects. The design is such that you could also use these in passive applications. A couple of reviewers mentioned that they expected the product to have an extended plastic duct '...based on the picture...'. I don't know if the picture has changed since their review(s), but to be clear, the part designed to connect to duct work is about an inch in depth.Replacing the existing 1/4" mesh screen with a finer mesh one (which I intend to) will keep smaller bugs out, and is fairly easy to accomplish even after installation (the screen slides into place). You might wish to "pre-curve" the screen to give it a slight convex shape so that it lays flat at the edges after installation.I've still got a couple of shed projects to work on, and I will be purchasing more of these when I do.

Works well, couldn't get the white one at the time, so I bought the brown and used a can of white spray paint on it and it worked great. Screen was easy to take out and put back in when I painted it to prevent it from being clogged with paint.

This air vent was used on an outside brick wall to replace a broken down plastic vent. This pushes onto the fireplace 4” intake line. It was super easy to slide on then I caulked around it. To prevent smaller insects from getting through, there is room to insert a fine mesh screen inside the vent, which I did. No more bugs getting in there, I kept finding wasps. I searched a long time to find this specific vent that fit perfectly.

sturdy piece of plastic. need your own screws/nails. vents face down permanently and has wired mesh protector inside hatch. was easy to install and push "into" the inside of the hole as opposed to go around /over the outside of opening and not into the hole. my only issue is cleaning out the mesh now seasonally.

Perfect size for my wood burning fireplace outdoor vent. The best part is the built in screen that will keep the wasps from coming in the house through the vent!Update 5/24/19 the built in screen will NOT keeps wasps out! The holes are apparently to big, already found a nest in the vent. Great item, looks super nice, still 5 stars, I will just add some window screen to the back of the built in screen.

this item was delivered really fast and early in the morning that was the good parthow ever upon opening my box i found 2 things out1 the vent flaps do not move to a open or closed position even though there are slots cut in the frame for a moving vent to fit (ill just have to pick that up locally)2 the hose attachment flange in this image appears to be 4 to 6 inches in length plenty of length to go through your average wall nice and clean with plenty of room left to attach the vent hose but when in fact the attachment flange on the item i revived is barely 2 inches that's just enough to put the hose on and a hose clampthis item will still suit my needs how ever i now have to make the vent hole a bit larger to accommodate the hose and take extra steps to make sure its sealed and insulated correctly it wont look as nice but it will still get the job done just barleythis item could use a few more up to date images and a better description

Well thought out, easily removable grille, decent pest screen. The larger holes in the screen do not impede airflow, will stop mice, but not ants/dust, etc. Approximately a 3mm x 3mm square for the mesh.The hole is under 6" so it will fit in the female end of ducting. If you have a male terminus, you will need the adapter. I installed mine indoors for a blower fan for a fireplace to keep out items dropped in by small, precious hands (hint hint), and to encourage better circulation throughout the room. If this is to be installed outdoors, again, it is plastic so it will fade if on the south side of a home. I would suggest metal in that case.

I was scared to try this myself but it was such a small job no one would come out. The cover on my cold air intake was brittle and broken to pieces. I duct taped a peice of plastic over it in spring and called a few different people. A coworker assured me I could change this myself.The only thing I did different is place a peice of window screening between the mesh and the pipe to keep bugs out. I hope that does not pose a problem as it would not restrict air flow.Now to try and find a company that will come clean my dryer vent. It is on the second storey of my house ... so I cannot do that job.
