Description

  • Flower bulbs are some of the lowest-maintenance plants in your garden.

Van Zyverden's Tulip Red Impression bulbs produce beautiful dark red flowers that are among the most weather resistant of all garden tulips. Red Impression has exceptional qualities and will produce lovely flowers mid-Spring! Like other Darwin Hybrids, it has extra large flowers on tall stems. You can count on this dependable, long-lasting tulip to deliver a bold splash of color in your garden. Tulips perform best in full sun but will tolerate some shade. When planting, it is nice to place tulips close to one another to avoid having them standing by themselves in the spring. Easy to grow. Plant in fall. Just dig, drop and you are done until spring! Tulip Red Impression Full Sun Red Annual Dormant Flower Bulbs Plant Tulip bulbs in the fall before the first frost hardens the soil. Soil preparation: The ideal soil is porous and drains well and yet still holds enough water for the roots. If your soil is heavy clay and drains slowly, or very sandy and does not hold water, add organic soil amendments (peat moss or ground bark). Spread a 3-4" layer of soil amendment, add fertilizer and incorporate together into the soil to a depth of 10". Dig a hole 4-6" deep. Place the tulip bulbs in the hole, pointed ends up, spacing 4-6" apart. Fertilize at time of planting and again after blooming. Remove old flowers, leaving as much foliage and stem as possible until they die down. Mass planting: When planting a large quantity of tulip bulbs in one bed, excavate the entire area to 4-6" deep, work fertilizer into the bottom of the trench, set out the bulbs then cover the bulbs with soil all at once. Mulch in extreme climates. For planting tulips in the southern part of the USA: In warmer climates, USDA Hardiness Zones 8, 9 or 10, it is advisable to pre-chill bulbs 6-8 weeks before planting. Place vented bag(s) at bottom of refrigerator. Do not freeze. Keep bulbs away from ripening fruits. After flowering and when foliage has died down, dig up and clean the tulip bulbs. Store in a dry, well-ventilated place until repeating the planting process again in fall. Repeat pre-chilling procedure before planting outdoors again. For container gardening: Bury the bulbs three times as deep as the bulb is wide. In zones 6 and below, you will need to protect your bulb containers. Place them near the foundation of the house or in a sheltered location. In zones 3-5, place the container in an unheated garage or shed.
