Five Stars
Like having paper in hand vs internet. Used both to supplement eachother.

Great addition to your travel book collection
Not as graphically stunning as the Lonely Planet series, but chock full of information nonetheless. I stumbled upon this series after finding out the Lonely Planet Pocket Series didn’t cover San Diego, Denver, or Colorado Springs. I have to say, i really enjoyed the book, found a few amazing beaches in San Diego and some amazing brunch places to go with my mom! It’s well worth it if you are looking to expand your travel book collection....

For a Va-Ca or a Stay-Ca
I always like to have an “In-hand” travel book when I’m on vacation. Smartphones, Wi-Fi, and GPS have made traveling easier, but a physical travel guide is a smart investment to have in your bag for all those times when the internet is down, slow or nonexistent.I’ve used both Fodor’s and Lonely Planet but for me the edge goes to Fodor’s. It’s written by locals who have an upfront and personal relationship to the area. They’ve been around for over 80 years, the format is easier on the eyes (especially for us seniors) and the price point is reasonableThis volume features San Diego and regions north up to Oceanside. With more folks taking “Staycations” I would still encourage them to purchase one of these guides. You’ll find out more about your area than you ever imagined was there. Some of the top reasons to Love San Diego are the great beaches, lots of family activity like the Zoo, Sea World, Lego Land and Balboa Park. Eating: everything from Old Town with its specialty Mexican food and margaritas to the Gaslight region. You’ll find lots of regional craft brews and dinner cruises at the harbor. When shopping there is everything from Mexican crafts to upscale fashion at the malls. There are lots of pictures, travel tips, Fodor’s Choice for their top recommendation, and Travel Smart which is Tips for transportation, accommodations, electricity, healthcare, emergencies, and safety. Fodor’s is a good choice for both solo and group travel whether you’re close to home of in a far away land. I'm kind of a local and found things in this book that I've overlooked for years. Fodor books are a real treasure.

Unacceptable print quality
The single star is for the print quality, not the content. Pages 194-224 are blurry, and the rest of the pages are only passable. I ordered a replacement copy in hopes that I had gotten a dud, but it was also blurry. Content is great. Wish I could get a good copy.

Good guide for a vacation or long weekend
Sometimes it is tough to review a travel guide because I have been there so many times and the guides just don't cut it. I am glad to say that, for its size, this guide does a nice job giving you lots of options to plan an itinerary for you and your family for a vacation or even just a long weekend. You can easily bring it along with you. I have family in Del Mar and Coronado and we usually go back to visit at least once a year. Every year there is something new. Having grown up there, things have changed so much over the last 30+ years that it's nice to have a little update. Sure, I call my friends and they let me know, but most people may not have that, so this travel guide will prove very helpful There isn't as much detail as I would like, but then, that's what the internet is for I guess. There is enough to get you the information you want but then you might have to dig a little deeper for more details. In all fairness, it would be unmanageable if they put in all the details. If you are planning a trip to San Diego, I am confident that you will find this useful, especially if it is your first time.

Not Enough Info for Traveling with Kids
We did not find the content very helpful. It’s very cursory for our purposes. We picked San Diego as a destination for kid-friendly places, such as the zoos, museums, beaches and SeaWorld. Each place could’ve used more than a blurb. The blurbs contained very basic information about each, telling us what we already knew and what we found online in just a few minutes. It may have been more helpful if you were exploring historical and adult-oriented sites. What would’ve earned more stars for us would be if it contained information on how to traverse the zoos. There are so many hills. It’s pretty brutal with a young kid. That information would’ve been gold for us!
