Time to go
Likeable main characters, good pacing, makes good use of the normal expected tropes. Writing is clean and spare, without the rambling you sometimes find in this genre.

Good read
A good read and what seems like it would be fairly realistic. So many wouldn't last a couple of days and others doing whatever it takes. I enjoyed this book and would recommend.

Getting Out
Interesting story about an EMP and how human beings respond to impending disaster and death. Good to know what to expect if it ever happens.

Some good points. Most of poorly research and tought out
I will review this series in its entirety here:Book 1 = 4 stars (because I liked the premise and hoped for improvement with the flaws), decreasing down to 1 star soon because the flaws were not improving. By the time I finished the series I was skipping most of the chapters and in fact skipped whole books. What I liked - The characters were amateurs - It was nice to see characters who had to learn as they go; the position most people would find themselves in. The characters were not either good and flawless or nasty and evil. Some had both good and bad in them. Even though I didn't particularly like and of the main characters, I did like a few side characters, and I wanted John to find his brother Max.What I didn't like - There was killing, raping, arson, and other crazy evil the very first night. The stupidity (2 examples: Mandy didn't see or hear of foreign help coming the first day or two, so she concluded "the entire planet had been affected;" and one of the characters thought thick glass would stop bullets.) Even though the novice main character knew this was an EMP, no police knew. Newer cars worked after the EMP. They got into one shootout (or hostage situation or etc) after another with no breaks - for EIGHT BOOKS. It was truly tiresome. With a few days' gun practice for most, this group of 6-7 was able to out-shoot militias, prisoners, and, if I recall, about a 100-person mob. People looked malnourished, barely clothed or even naked, and crazed, only a couple of weeks after the event. The author needed to establish a timeline and research or think out how things actually would look or go down before writing this.

On the plus side it's nice to read about a fairly ordinary guy
A reasonably enjoyable story. On the plus side it's nice to read about a fairly ordinary guy. He's a little prepared, but not much. He doesn't have a super bunker, or years of military training etc. The writing is decent, and draws you in, but isn't of the same caliber as something like "one second after"I did have some of the same niggles as other reviewers (spoilers)1. I agree that the speed with which things got REALLY bad was I think unlikely. But to be fair not impossible. I think you probably have a couple of days before things get really bad, as it will take people a bit to adjust. After all, power goes out all the time. In particular I think it unlikely that prisoners would have escaped yet.2. Agreed that the new SUV would be unlikely to be operating.3. For somebody that supposedly spent a lot of time on prepping forums, he seemed unaware of the need to have plenty of bodies for pulling security.4. The military response is VERY unlikely unless there is some big plot reveal we don't know about yet.5. After shooting the prisoners how come the rest of his party didn't hear the gun shots and come back to see what's going on?

Good read
Somewhat predictable, but with enough surprises to make up for the predictable storyline and I looking forward to what’s next in the series.

Rubbish
Rubbish, utter drivel and unreadable.Found myself getting irritated by the characters, making mistakes just to keep the story going. In the end I skipped chapters and then stopped reading. Truly awful book, stay away.

Utter Drivel..... Avoid
simply awful. I try not to write poor reviews as I prefer positivity. This collection of words was terrible though and spurred me to help other readers avoid spending their cash on such drivel. The book reads like a pop culture comic. Unrealistic dialog and character's. Save your money and go read Devon C Ford instead.

Not bad
Not bad as some reviewers say. I've definitely read far worse. I liked it enough to buy book 2. Conversation is a little stilted at times but can be forgiven as the story is very interesting.
