I read all the 1 and 2 star ratings - these people don't know how to install this filter. It is a tight fit, but hardly difficult, just requires 5 seconds of patience. Insert on end, make sure it sits on the ledge, the compress to the other end. The pleats will flex a bit but the end result is a very snug fit. Once you have them in, press with the flat of your hand and make sure they are fully sitting on the ledge.You don't need a hard edge on the filter or any of the things they complain about. Mann makes very good filters. For $21 shipped Amazon Prime for carbon activated german filters ... you can't beat it.

These filters are great! I bought them form my 1998 BMW 528i and even tho they are literally an exact fit they work wonderful. The air inside the car smells much cleaner and i have less allergy problems. any foul smells from the external environment are caught by the activated charcoal in the filter. Great price for two filters i would def buy again form my car in the future and recommend for anyone looking for excellent filters at a great price. in your face AUTOZONE&O'RILLEY!!!!

Wife said the car smelled bad, I didn't notice but got these to help. :-)Seem to work well, install was easy just that they don't have the lip the factor type have which makes them fit a just a tiny bit more "awkward" than original. You also have to look at the directions (crazy eh?) to see which way air flows since there is no lip to orient them. Would like better if they had the lip but not a big issue.

These may not be the OEM filters BMW puts in their cars, but are a more than adequate replacement. My wife noticed a burnt oil smell coming from the air conditioner. I thought it was because of a crack in the air system. Before spending hundreds to replace parts based on a best guess, I started with the easiest one to replace - the air filter. It worked like a charm. No more oil smell and they were easy to replace. The package says 5 min replacement, but it took me < 1 min.

This set comes with two good quality filters and fit my 525i well, Installation is very simple and took only 5 minutes!

Ok yeah, they don't have the black plastic thing I get it... but look at what you are getting for the price! If replace these once a year, the cost adds up over time... and isn't that the point with DIY maintenance with our BMW's? Install with the arrows facing up. Make sure you take a clean cloth (or your vacuum works too) and clean out the filter box and the dust plug in the corners!Lastly, GINGERLY put the clean air filter into the clean box. You do need to be careful around the edges, I suggest making adjustments on the filter material itself, and the filter medium is much more robust and if it was pinched a little bit its not a big deal. Otherwise, if you pinch the corners or the edges, you risk not getting a full seal.Now that I think of it, I could of gotten them cheaper (with black frame) on RockAuto, but I love my prime shipping.
