It discusses what everybody's job is (or is supposed to be!); tips and checklists for how to set up a pre-production office so you don't forget anything; war stories and ideas for how to help filming go more smoothly, how TV differs from film; special considerations for indie film and new media; and tons more.I recommend it to pretty much everybody, but especially small/indie/new filmmakers who want to stay organized and better understand the big picture, especially if you've never been an executive producer, director, or line producer before.

The latest version of The Film Production Handbook is, like the previous version, an indispensable guide to film production. I've been in the business a long time, but I still like to re-read this book every few years. Best of all is the bullet point "tips" on various topics: outfitting a production office, planning for shoots, etc.My only problem with this book is that I purchased the Kindle edition, and there is no Table of Contents. This is a huge book, and it's nearly impossible to jump around without a TOC. Actually, it's almost useless without one, unless you want to page forward hundreds of pages to reference the section you want. So buy this book, but get the print edition or wait till they fix the TOC problem.

I have been a cable television and commercial advertisement Producer for over 20 years, but will soon be working as a Production Manager on a low budget feature, so I thought I'd order this book and brush up on my skills. This book is very comprehensive and covers, or least gives a detailed overview of, every aspect of movie production. Suitable for students as well as seasoned professionals, the book is worth the purchase price for the library of on-line production forms alone. Highly recommended!

This was required reading for a film production course I took. The book is amazingly thorough, packed with practical information, forms, documents, lists and abundant links to resources for the beginning filmmaker. The anecdotes and insights from professionals in the field are very useful and eye-opening.I deducted a star because the book needs a copy edit (lots of typos and wordiness – I’m a professional editor). But overall I’d buy it again.

I purchased this as I started to produce indie projects. There is so much information and all of the info here trumps whatever you can find on Wiki. Even the forms that are available online to download are extremely helpful. If you're new to working on union projects, this is your go-to. If not, this is still your go-to. As often as info and facts change lately, this book will continue to be relevant for some time to come.
