Suttons spinach F1 produces fast-growing true type spinach which has attractive round, dark green foliage which is delicious as baby leaves. Ideal for spring and autumn growing: it is possible to sow from as early as February and as late as September, though recommended times are March to mid April and August. Mildew resistant. UK bred. Culture: Crops continuously if picked often. Sow March-May outdoors and thin out early for use in summer and autumn. (4-14 weeks maturity). Use thinning as 'baby' leaves. High in s A and C, and antioxidants. Lightly steam or eat raw.
Sowing and growing - For baby leaves, sow thinly into finely raked, moist warm soil or in containers at a depth of 13 mm. Begin cutting 2-3 weeks after emergence leaving approximately 2.5 cm of to grow again. For mature s, sow in blocks of approximately 23 x 23 cm, spacing a few every 10-30 cm and removing surplus seedlings. Alternatively sow in rows 30 cm apart. Water freely in dry weather. Avoid sowing in midsummer or the s may run to seed.
