Wow, that was easy!
This swift has turned the chore of ball winding into a very pleasant experience! First, it is compact which is a necessity in our small house. It is very easy to assemble and pack away again and it is nicely adjustable to take a wide range of skein sizes. It gets smoother with use, especially the rotation around the centre dowel. What used to take my ever patient husband and I the best part of half an hour to do, now takes 10 minutes. An added bonus for this is that it is a table model - and very stable - so you don't have to hunt around for an edge of table on which to clamp it.

Works a treat with my ball winder!
I always groan when wool is supplied in hanks. For some reason, the more expensive the yarn, the less likely it is to come in a ball, and the more stressful it is to wind. Male members of the family have been unwillingly pressed into service to hold out their arms, knowing that it will probably end, if not in tears, then in an evening of tension and tangles. Well, all that is in the past now with the arrival of this beauty. Smooth wood, effortless assembly, highly satisfying rotation enabling even tension in the ball. I wound 2 100g balls in minutes, and husband enjoyed his free time. I love that the swift is so simple, yet elegant. it was easily dismantled and stored in its box, which is a blessing in our small home. I ordered it from ArtofYarn, and it came within a couple of days, with no additional costs. Highly recommended for anyone who is going to buy wool in hanks on a regular basis.

Traditional swift
I bought this traditional yarn swift after much deliberating which type to purchase. I like the simple smart design without threads the umbrella swifts have. Simple to assemble I've left the base together to store and just removed the arms and pegs to keep safely in the supplied box. The pegs fit well if round the correct way. There is good size adjustment for various sizes of skeins. The top rotates freely and because it's sturdy provides some traction for the yarn on the ball winder. I've used it on the floor with good results as my table is tricky for it all being circular. I also managed to get it well positioned for left handed use.Delivery speed was fantastic, almost immediately dispatched. Very impressed with both the product and business that supplied It.

Good swift
Pros: life without a swift is hard when you buy a lot of yarn in skeins. Any swifter is better than none. This one is made entirely out of wood. Sturdy construction. It works. If you are making your own skeins it is really convenient as it has the marks for the size of the skein you are making. When I wind up handspun yarn I can easily calculate the length of my skein by counting the number of wraps.Cons: it moves about as it is just a free standing swift as opposite to those that attach to the side of the table. It is not a huge problem, but can be a little annoying. It is a little clunky, and when it is taken apart there are 8 parts to think about where to store. It would be easier if it came in some kind of pouch for storage.

Very pleased with this design of swift
Very pleased with this design of swift. Having considered buying the type that looks like the inside of an umbrella, I thought that the Amish design would be more convenient - no need to clamp it onto a table. It is well made, easy to assemble and disassemble, and is very stable. It works very well on a low table near an armchair - do not need to be level with it when winding. Worked well with a very tangled laceweight skein. The pegs are quite tight but this is necessary and it turns very smoothly. Much better than using the back of a chair or a reluctant husband - glad I bought it.

Works well, seems much sturdier than the umbrella style ones.
I did laugh at the amish design being from china! But that said, its nice and sturdy, and works well. The pegs are much longer than they look in the picture, so even though I had a skein that was a bit too big, it unwound happily without a hitch. The trick is to loosely tie the other end around the middle somewhere, so it doesnt get tangled in the rest during unwinding. There were a few bits of loose wood in the holes left over from manufacture, but they came off cleanly, and the laser etching for size is nicely done. I did have one of the umbrella style ones before, but it soon broke, and I think this should last much longer.

I really recommend this swift!
This swift is the best I have ever used - not only is it working perfectly and smoothly, easy to assemble and to store away - but it is beautiful in it's minimal and practical design and I love that it is made completely out of sturdy wood.It is simple and effective and really made to last many years!

I LOVE this yarn swift.
It breaks down into small pieces for easy storage. It has a smooth motion that makes using it a dream. It does not have the little metal rings that you find on umbrella swifts that I personally had trouble with my yarn getting caught on. You don't have to clamp it down to a table/surface. And, it makes measuring your yarn so much easier with multiple adjustments you can use to multiply rounds by. AND, it's less expensive than purchasing an umbrella type swift.
