A great product.

The media could not be loaded.  My first cotton knitted scrub cloth was made by my granddaughter eight years ago. When it wore out, she was a teenager and on to other projects. I found these Toockies, and they are almost as good: durable, absorbent, and they wash clean in the laundry.

Most useful tool in sink

I hate doing dishes and yet I still wash a hell of a lot of them. My back hurts standing up to do them and so I want to get them done quickly. And I have to get cemented food off the plates for my dishwasher to have half a chance of getting them clean. This is the best tool for that.Brushes take too long. Sponges suck (both literally and figuratively). Steel scrubbers will scratch both teflon (PTFE) and plastic. All the wand-like-soap-filling-detachable-sponge products are just gimmicks, really. One day I was given a crocheted scrub cloth and found it to be the best tool by far for washing most every dish, pot, or pan (except cast iron, in which the Oxo brush is best). I wore it to pieces and then sat and waited for someone to give me another one. Didn't happen, so I searched and found these. They are not as soft as the one I had before, but nearly as effective, and yet longer-lasting (I have yet to wear out the first one). I have yet to find anything comparable. These work. Great price. And a pretty impressive business, to say the least.

Well made tight weave

So nice... organic, no dyes, and very tight weave that will last a long time and resist stretching. Highly recommended. I use them for washing dishes and cleaning kitchen counters. No worries about baby chewing on a clean one. There is a slight musty smell when they arrive packed in a sealed plastic bag. But just wash them and they are ready to use.

Could be more absorbant but overall nice quality

My mother in law used to knit these for me as Christmas gifts but she’s 92 now and just cannot do it.These are made of a strange sort of fake Cotton because they do not absorb well. The first time I used one the water literally rolled off the rag? I’ve learned to manipulate them a bit to get them sort of wet before using and then wring them thoroughly to rinse and nang. They are a tightly knitted rag and perhaps if it was not so tight it could absorb more easily. I’m hoping as they wear they will become more usable. So for thickness and durability they are excellent but absorbable is where they fail, for now.I’ll update my review if they relax and start absorbing better. They are very pretty and if I had the time to learn how to knit I’d make my own.

Great multi-purpose cloth

I have used these for 20 plus years. A family member used to make them for me. I decided to try the "tookies" brand and I am very impressed with them. They are a heavy duty cloth and if you are replacing an old standard dish cloth, you may find it too heavy at first but I think you will fall in love with these as I have. I use them with bleach and all types of detergent and they hold up for a long time.I've read a few comments about Tookies not being absorbent. If you have ever used a chamois rag on a car, you will know that you first must wet the rag for it to be used. A dry Tookie does not soak up moisture. Once it is wet, do this under the faucet and then wring it out, it will absorb. I would venture to say that one of these Tookies will soak up a full glass of liquid with room to spare. And if indeed these are helping provide a source of income for the women of Calcutta India as the company professes, then all the better! I can say that the package I received was signed by the woman who made them, real or not.

While I could have knit these myself, I wanted to support a good cause. For that I did love where my money went, in terms of labor and the fact that it's organic. And it is a very durable product that is capable of getting most food particles off your dishes. My biggest qualm is the size. It's much too bulky and big, in weight and in size, which makes it such a hassle now to do dishes. Granted, I have rather small hands but even my husband felt similarly. So I will have to find another reason for them and look to another eco alternative to cleaning my dishes.

LOVE the story behind these, useful as a potholder and coaster!

The story behind these is reason enough (in my humble opinion) to purchase these. Toockies are made in Calcutta by women who are extremely impoverished. Buying these supports a wonderful cause, by providing employment for women in need. I do not regret purchasing these at all for that reason.I didn't find these useful as scrubbing clothes, so I use these as potholders. And I love them for that use! However, you can't use them for extremely high heats - you will need a thicker pot holder. I use these for quick turns/rotation of a pan in the oven, or to lift a hot lid off a pot on the stove, or to hold the sides of a pot when cooking, or to hold the sides of the pot when straining water. It works great for that. I really like having the smaller size of the toockie for a pot holder. I find most pot holder way too large for those types of things (and I have a gas stove, and the pot holder can burn/catch fire very easily). The small size of the toockie is a huge advantage for me in those cases.I'm also using these as coasters for hot beverages. They work really well for that, even though it's technically not what they were intended for. I love supporting the use of organic cotton, as well as the cause of impoverished women. It's win-win.

Great dish cloths

Great dish cloths. Mine got holes in the over time from all of the use, but I consider this a good thing and it shows that they would compost over time once thrown out unlike plastic scrubbies.

Just what I wanted

These hand made dishcloths were just what I wanted, they are of natural cotton, hand knitted and excellent value for money. My six will last for a long time even with the punishing chores I will do with them. A great buy.

Good

Well made. I've had these for about 3 months now (15 washes or so?) and they're still great, no strands or holes. I think they're the perfect kitchen wash cloth, would recommend.

Best for hand washing dishes

Absorbency gets better after the first wash and then they are perfect. Exactly like the home knit ones I had previously and met my expectations completely. Would not go back to regular dishcloths again.
