The Animal Book (The Fact Book)

The one-page format for each animal is perfect for my son, but seriously preachy and depressing. Pretty much every animal goes into climate change and how natural habitats are being destroyed. Not that this is not important to talk about in general, but my son is 3. He's a bit young for the moral dilemma of climate change on his shoulders.

My 3.5 year old found this book at the library and she checked it out a few times til it was no longer available because someone else had gotten it and then I ordered it and she is so happy that she gets to keep it forever. So thankful for amazon having exactly what I needed and the price was so reasonable.

I purchased this book to read with my six year old son who loves animals. The book separates animals by region, and just about ever one page is dedicated to one animal, with the occasion 2 page spread. Each animal will have its own 3-4 sentence introduction, a large drawn picture, and then smaller pictures with facts or explainations about the animal.Ultimately I find myself skipping over half the 'facts' in the book because it focuses on the negative effects global warming, hunting, loss of habitat, or some other human interaction is having on the animals. While those are important ideas and concepts to understand, it's very boring to my child, and not the interesting animal facts he wants to learn about. Of all the animals fact books I've purchased for my son, he likes this the least because it offers the least of what interests him in animals. But any of the SMITHSONIAN animal encyclopedia books, they're miles ahead of this one.
