Requested Gift
Special gift requested by an eleven-year-old grandson. Very pleased. Got a picture of him wearing it just to WATCH hockey on TV, as well as to play roller hockey in the garage. Obviously good for self image as well as protection.

Bargain purchase - but is MUCH larger than advertised....
I bought this helmet as a long overdue replacement of a Bauer NBH4500L. As the snaps and straps are standard size, they are interchangeable. The biggest differences are that the installed foam is thinner and the straps near the ears feel a little cheaper than the Bauer's. The TronX helmet also needed to be assembled, where Bauer's came put together. The helmet seems lighter-weight than Bauer's, but it is also cheaper, so this is not unexpected. It should be noted that I had a fairly big melon; 7 3/4 last time I measured it, so this helmet should have been a tight squeeze (I had to expand the Bauer helmet a bit to get it to fit). I had to adjust the TronX to its smallest sizing and it is still a little bit loose. Not so much that I won't use it, but enough that if I shake my head back and forth it moves and feels a little sloppy. Thicker foam seems to be called for. At any rate, unless you have a mammoth head, the Tron medium size might be more appropriate. If this was any larger, I'd have to add foam, or return the item outright.

Solid construction
Hockey gear can be really expensive, so I typically like to buy second-hand equipment when possible. That said, one thing you should never buy used is your helmet. The TronX Comp Ice Hockey Helmet is an excellent option for those who want good construction but don't care about brand names. It's comfortable, easily adjustable, and not too heavy. The cage seems durable and doesn't seem worse than any other cage when it comes to obstructing vision.I (thankfully) haven't taken a puck directly to the head with this helmet, so I can't 100% attest to its durability in that regard, but I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't hold up and prevent possible injuries/concussions. Overall, I would recommend this product as an alternative to name-brand equipment.
