Controversial

Normally I wouldn’t give a bad review and there are plenty of others to do that for me. While I was initially excited to some extent about more giant related things the controversy over the use of AI art came out. Even if it was addressed and there wasn’t a policy in place I will always stand with the normal artists. I can’t endorse the supposed “accidental” use of ai art. It definitely hurts smaller creators the most. While I did not cancel my preorder and I am still interested in giants I did have to express the issues surrounding this release. They have already corrected the digital copies and have made changes to policy to prevent this happening in the future. To be honest some of the issues with the bad art are not as noticeable in the physical copy for instance the frost giant with the weird feet actually has the picture cut off at the knees so it could be worse. I still think it’s a decent book and I know Wotc has had a lot of issues recently in the last year and people hate a lot of their recent books. I would still recommend this for a collector who needs every book or a dm who wants a few more things to spice up a campaign. The creatures are fun especially the wacky ones like the Paul Bunion reference or the golden goose. The giant tick. As always I recommend watching the official d&d YouTube to get a better understanding of what you’re buying before purchasing something.

Giant price, lean content.

I enjoy a lot of what's in here, but there really isn't that much to go around. The art is solid, the subclass is thematic, and the lore, items, and monster stat blocks are all also pretty good. My main complaint really is that there's not a lot of material in this very thin book. Add to that the price increase on WotC books, and I really don't think I can recommend it to anyone who's not a GM with a specific love of giants. Again, it's pretty good content, just not for $60. Grab it on sale if you're interested, but otherwise I would pass on it.

Expansion of Lore and options

the Monster Manual and Volos guide of monsters have a lot of information on giants. For some reason WOTC has made 'Volos guide of monsters' legacy. but most of what it stated in Volos is expanded on in bigbys. As a DM I am not interested in the player options as much as a the maps that were missing in Volos are here. I think it is worth getting if you like giants.

Giants w/o giant player race.

Decent book, but don't expect any stats for giant race, half-giants, etc. It was kinda meh really.

Increase in Price; Decrease in Content

(Reviewed the full book, did not purchase)I'm not going to go too deeply into what's in this book, because none of it is really worth talking about. All anyone cares about are subclasses, rules, and magic items. Everything else is stuff DMs can ideate on themselves, so all the fluff is just window dressing. Crunchy stuff is what matters because it's what becomes tacitly considered "legal" so that people don't have to argue with their DM about what is or isn't homebrew. That all said, the crunchy stuff in Wizards of the Coast's books has been getting less and less with every book. There are at least some interesting monsters in this one, but the Barbarian subclass alone as a player-facing option is so slim that it's painful. When you factor in the updated cost in WOTC's desperation to push everyone to their digital live-service model, it makes this one a very difficult pill to swallow, and one that I will not even attempt to choke down. If you want to pull pieces out of this book, just go check it out on 5eTools.

Giant Fumble.

About as much to say here as is content in the book. The player options are pitiful. The monsters are kinda cool but nothing ground breaking. Not even to mention the “accidental” include of AI art.

The only thing giant about this book is the price.

Overall, the book is decent, but it is one of the smallest books I think Wizard's of the coast has produced I believe. Ironically, it's also one of the most expensive books. I think I expected something more, something bigger from a book about giants, the fact that it's the smallest seems a bit ironic. That aside, the book itself is probably best suited for DM's. There are player options there, but there is very little in that section. 9 (5 double sided) pages that cover player options, and the rest of the book is really lore, monsters maps etc. It's not bad, it's probably just not going to warrant a player picking it up, and even as a DM, I would wait to see if the price goes down. I have purchased nearly ever Wizards of the Coast DND book out there, and while I wasn't disappointed in the quality, I was very disappointed in the quantity. I would have maybe picked this book up if it were 25$ But not at it's current sale price and definitely not at it's full price.
