Although most of the "old timers" prefer to sharpen their saws by hand, this guide does a much more precise job. I prove it to them by taking their hand sharpened saws and doing an angle comparison using the guide after they've finished sharpening their saws by hand. Your chains last longer and are sharper and the teeth are always even. You do need to practice with it before you can get quick with it, but it's worth it. Yeah, some parts are plastic, but if you take care of it, it should last a long time. I cut roughly 5-8 cords a winter and use the sharpening guide after a couple of cords. I'm very happy with it.

Very flimsy it works good but cheaply made for sure

My trusty old filing jig wore out several years back, the bushings finally wore out. I ordered this and had my first chain sharpened in under 5 minutes, the chain is as good as new, I tested it right after filing. The 5 minutes included unboxing and setup. Glad I upgraded, works great and lets you control how much tooth to file which extends chain life.

I've been logging for 18 yrs now and you have to be a rocket scientist to figure this thing out. It's also very cheap and flimsy. It don't slide back and forth very well even with some oil on it.It says to bolt on bar with front lined up with center of rivets in the chain but when you tighten it up its impossible for the chain to move through it. You have to losen it then line it up and re tighten and sharpen the next tooth. It's a huge pain. I didn't try the depth guage because I didn't understand it at all.There's a lot better options and cheaper ones out there that actually help and work.

Very fidgety and gimmicky feeling, very difficult to get a repeatable, precise setup on this due to the severe wobble of the file guide. There are a lot of adjustments which don't really do much other than get you within a 5-8 degree window. File is hard to move back and forth, which causes the guide to flex, leading to lack of precision. Lot of videos show users oiling the guide so you can move the file but doesn't really make it accurate.Returned for a refund and stuck with hand sharpening - I was more accurate than this guide.
