Loctite Black Max Impact Resistant Adhesive for Firearms

This was to attach Weaver #12 scope bases to a Winchester model 74 with no drilling or tapping. Rifle is in great shape, from 1947 and wasn't machined for .22 rails, too early. One forum poster suggested using this stuff as an adhesive, seems to work. Have put 100 rounds through the gun, stuff is still stuck. Spec sheet shows high sheer strength, supposed to be rubber-fortified for impact resistance. Guess I'll see how it holds up to bumps of normal handling. It's a cyanoacrylate derivative, so only needs a couple of minutes to grab hold, no lengthy fixturing needed. Used a silver sharpy to mark where the rear base needed to go, applied goo to the base, put it in place, let it set for a bit, put the scope with aligned rings on with the front base in the front ring and gooped up. Latched it to the rear base, pressed on the front for a couple of minutes and it was done. Laser boresighter showed it was good next day. So no real fuss, just make sure everything is squeaky clean, used some aerosol parts cleaner on the mating parts. Only downside is how much they want for the dinky tube. And it's only good for about three months once opened.

Man this stuff has done what no other adhesive I’ve tried was able to do

1. It absolutely did not work on my rifle even though I meticulously prepared both surfaces to be joined. 2. It took forever to arrive.

I originally bought it to glue sights on a shotgun barrel. Its black so any overflow blends right in and looks clean and natural. It's also incredibly strong. Me and my father go to Turkey shoots/ card shoots. We take regular shotguns and have custom barrels built and mount high powered scopes to them. Anyway. My dad had a barrel built for a old single shot but there wasn't enough metal to have it drilled and taped. So we considered welding a base to it but decided to try the fancy glue I payed 40$ an ounce for first never expecting it to work. We shot at least 25rnds through it ever Sunday morning for years and that scope is still rock solid to this day. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did but it worked.
