Thank you for your question Teresa! No, algaecides are not safe for snails or other invertebrates and should not be used in a tank housing them. A better way to control algae in a tank housing inverts is to pair regular vacuuming of the gravel with regular partial water changes about every one to two weeks. No need to change more than about 10-20 percent of the water at any one time.

I do and I have Marino moss balls, haven't seen a decline in the ones I grow. TL;DR yes

I don't feel it's ever good to do a 100% water change because you risk crashing the cycle. I think 50% is reasonable. And also try to sub anything in the tank/pond with green algae.
